With a fender mounted air filter, such as used in a homemade CAI, is there a potential for rain or puddle water to get to the filter and thus into the engine? Where the filter is usually positioned, there seems to be a possibility for rain to work it's way past the corner light assy. and to the filter. Anyone fab up some kinda splash shield for the filter to prevent this?

I knew someone who, in 1999, had a new 98 cobra and drove through deep standing water and sucked water up into the engine and trashed it. The filter was dripping wet. That was with a stock intake setup (which I realize is different than ours). He got a new engine under warranty, though.

Here's a pic of where the water could make it's way through.

I'd say that that may happen once out of every 100,000 stangers. I dont think its enuf of a threat to particularly keep yourself up at night for.

you would need to suck up a lot of water to cause damage, and i dont think you would be driving if it was raining that bad
