I want to install the water/methanol injection kit system on my 96 in the spring. I know how it works and all, but I have heard from one source (not the most reliable one) that methanol is corrosive. Is this true? Anybody have supporting, and true facts that tells if this is true or false? I personally think that is false, because many cars have it, but do you guys know?

I have heard the same thing....but I'm running 100% methanol in my kit. That was at the advice of my tuner. Him and 6 other cars are also running 100% methanol. The kit I have is from www.alkycontrol.com . Buick guys have been doing this for awhile with no bad results.

Personally, I think the meth is sprayed at such a high psi and when atomized correctly into the a/f mixture there isn't any chance for it to be corrosive inside the combustion chamber.

As far as I know it's only corrosive to certain rubber/plastic parts. I don't think it's a problem with metal. They've been running methanol for a long time at Indy.

It's a small world. I think I know who your tuner is. He told me the same thing. He runs 100% methanol, and it is from alky control. I think he even used your car for the example he gave me. Those numbers sound too familier. Anyways, did you have to get the MSD DIS-4 ignition? He said he may be able to do the kit on my car without it if boost is at 11-14 pounds. Also, I live around the same area you do, but I don't think I have seen you around.

By the way, how do you like the car with the kit on it?
Have you had any concerns or problems? Let me know..Thanks......Matt

Hey Matt,

Lidio tuned my car from Alternative Auto. Just saw that you are in Michigan too. I live out in Clinton Twp about 3 minutes from his shop.

Anyway, the methanol kit was installed end of November. I did get to take the car out about 2 weeks ago on that 55 degree Saturday. The car moves for sure. I took my buddy for a drive and he said the before and after is very noticable. I gained 90+RWHP from 5K-6500 RPM then the power curve starts to drop and I ended up with a peak gain of around 42RWHP. Lidio thought that the heat from the s-trim at the high boost points was the cause of the power dipping since the temps would start to come back up...but no where close to where it would have been without methanol. If the power would have kept going up to redline we would have seen a 100+RWHP difference at 7K. That is with 2.5 lbs more boost plus the methanol injection.

So, so far I'm very happy with the results.
PM me if you want to get into more specifics.

-Chuck
