I bought and installed a new ford racing water pump. I replaced the timing chain gasket while I was at it.
I noticed a small coolant leak dripping from one of the dedicated bolts that hold on the water pump backing plate. The water pump came with the backing plate and there was a gasket between the pump and plate. I made sure that the 2 bolts that were on it were tight before installing.
Was I supposed to of taken the 2 bolts out and applying sealant to that gasket?
I laid under the car and watch the drip develop from that bolt head.
My repair manual and the water pump sheet doesn't say anything about needing to do anything to the backing plate.
