About a year ago I put a 5.0L and a T5 tranny in my '66. About a month ago my water pump went out and I ran into some trouble trying to replace it. When I put the 5.0 in (it was out of an '85 stang) I had to change the oil pumps and oil pans because one is front sump and one is rear sump, so I also had to use the timing chain cover and water pump off of the original 289 so that the dipstick would be in the right place. To make the pulleys line up on the new motor I had to put washers behind the water pump, which wasn't that big of a deal at the time but I think that contributed to my water pump failure. Has anyone else run into this problem when doing this swap or something similar? Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
