water pump question?

Iwas told that a water pump from a 1985 thru 1987 crown vic 302 will work on a mustang 302 . what i am doing is changing the water pump from reverse flow to standard flow so i can run a belt just around the alt. water pump and crank i have elimated the power steering pump and a/c i tried the march kit to elimate p/s that use a tensioner but had no luck with getting rid of belt squeal i was told about this idea and was wondering if any one has done this cause i bought the water pump today and it has a couple of extra holes any suggestions
 
i think 8830 is saying on the crown vic the impellers on the inside would face the oppsite direction so it would flow the other way but still the crank shaft would move the same idunno im lost now

Not sure what you meant, but with a serpentine, if you come straight up from the crank pulley (belt leaves the right side of the pulley at 3 o'clock) to the water pump (belt hits the water pump pulley at 3 o'clock) such that the ribbed part of the belt is driving the pump, that will rotate the water pump in the same direction as the crank pulley - which is the wrong direction for a stock 5.0 HO water pump. If it's a stock 5.0HO water pump, the serpentine must drive the pump with the back of the belt (the smooth part) -- that assures the pump turns in the opposite direction of the crank which is how it's designed to work.

88306 - you're thinking about it correctly - if you run the belt the way you described you need a standard rotation pump, not the regular reverse rotation pump that comes on the Stangs. Unfortunately, I have no idea if the Vic pump is standard rotation. Are you gonna find a ribbed pulley for the pump? That should eliminate the chance for squeal if you have it tensioned properly.
 
if im not mistaken you can still use your reverse flow waterpump.....it doesnt matter which side of the pulley the belt is touching, its going to spin the same way. i might be wrong, but im pretty sure its going to spin the same way no matter how you route the belt. there are lots of people that put on a short belt for just the alternator, crank, and water pump for track use....dont see why it would be any different

youre right, the vanes on the impeller are facing the opposite way so that the water pump pumps when its turning the opposite way that our waterpumps turn. but i dont think it will work because it will still spin the same way as a normal mustang one will.
