water pump replacement?

I'm at 58,000 miles with the stock water pump on a '95 GT and currently have all of the accessories unbolted from the engine. Should I put my stocker back on or look for a replacement as long as I have everything unbolted??????? It was running fine before and still is...but a few friends mentioned that as long as I have everything apart I should consider replacing it. Any experienced thoughts? Should I replace it now while it's easy to get to? Or is the stocker fairly reliable? It is 12+ years old now...... By the way, if you are recommending replacement, I'd like some ideas for water pump brands - i.e. stock Ford replacement, etc.

id just reuse it, when the time comes and it goes out its not hard to replace

That water pump should have many more miles before needing to be replaced as my 95 has 93xxx and was just changed out. The only reason it was changed out is because I'm replacing everything and while the coolant was out for the radiator change I decided to replace it. Change it now will run you about $70.00 or later at the same $70.00 plus two hours of your time.

When you do get around to replacing it, the Stewart stage 1 brand pump is very nice. I've had two of them (the first one I screwed up, no fault of the pump, long story) and have been very pleased.

If you've got the extra cash and would rather be proactive on changing a part that WILL eventually fail (congrats on getting 12 yrs outta it) you can look at the Stewart pump here:

I changed mine out at 129,000 miles and it was still working fine, I wouldn't worry about it at this point. I bought a genuine Ford replacement waterpump from Jegs for about 50 bucks, hell you can't even touch a rebuilt pump from a parts store for that money.

if ya got the extra 40-50 to spend you can get the ford piece from summit. cheap insurance

I would do it... 2 hours labor is worth more to me than having it fail and 3-4 hours labor (by the time you drain the fluids, get the WP changed and get it all buttoned back up...

While I agree that 59k miles is very low, I would change it. I changed everything when I redid my h/c/i and motor, I mean everything, the only thing that got reused was my intake, and oil pan. It was cheap ins, to change all the little stuff, the last piece's I am going to change are the vaccuume lines.

i just changed mine at 184,xxx miles, so they are pretty reliable

Well

There certainly are more difficult jobs to do on our Stangs than swap
out a wp.

I'm kinda 50 50 on doing it while you got it apart
however
I'd not do a cheapie ... low quality part

if u got the doe go with a electric pump i have heard of people picking up about 10 hp they are expensive thoe like 380$ or so???!!

electric not so good on a street car...they dont last long between rebuilds.
