Does anyone know what the water pump rotation is on an 88 crown Vic? I'm putting a 5.0L in my Bronco II from the Vic, using 88 Mustang GT (speed density for now) EFI compurter and harness. I'm almost done, other than having lost the pump pulley, but started to wonder about the pump itself. Any ideas

Reverse rotation. It is a serpitine set-up with use of the power steering pump. My front dress on my 351W is from an 88 Crown Vic cop car (along with the motor)

Sweet! I had the option to pick up a 351W Crown Vic cop car or the one I ended up with. I went with the 5.0L for the mileage, 74,xxx miles compared to the 134,xxx miles on the bigger Windsor. I didn't (still don't actually) have the money to go through a motor

The easy way to tell is by what type of belt system it has. V-belts are standard(clockwise) rotation and serpentine are reverse(CCW).

88 Crown Vic is std rotation, same setup I have on my 89 V8 Ranger. Uses a flat serpentine style belt, one for the P/S, W/P and Alt. The other belt ran the A/C and smog pump. The timing cover is cast with the ports opposite the rev. rotation one, so the rev rotation pump won't fit. There are at least three pumps available for it. Two are cast iron, one is std volume, the other high volume (this is the Police & Taxi or extra cooling pump) The late 88's used a std volume aluminum pump. At least one vendor makes an aluminum "high performance" pump (don't recall the vendor but I got it from Autozone) thats a low volume, high rpm pump (bad for the street)

confused again

D.hearne, I'll have to check my original accessories because I think the entire setup ran a sepentine belt. I don't remember exactly and since I put on the Mustang alt, ps, smog pump, and eliminated the ac I'm already mixing things up. I have the mustang pump and front cover and I could switch them over but i hate to waste the timing cover gaskets I put on when I put in the new timing chain

Well, hell. I should have known there were some models that were exceptions; Ford has a bad habit of switching things around and mixing them up.
