I removed my door panels so I could paint them and found that there was water damage on the backside of the panels and also there was no water shield between the panel and the door.

I assume a previous owner removed the water shields. Where can I get new ones? I looked on 50resto.com but no dice

are you talking about that paper between the door panel and door, held on by some black mastic?

From the factory, it's kind of like wax paper. The easiest thing to do would be to cut a piece of garbage bag into the general shape and get a roll of butyl tape to hold it on.

3M caulk strips also work really well for holding the water shield in place - I used it on my '68.

I guess I'll just get a thick sheet of plastic drop cloth and cut to fit.

Door shield

I used 3m spray glue and it worked great with my garbage bag liner.

Yeah just make your own, or roll your windows up when it rains.

You can find a thicker plastic film at most hard ware stores, and you can find "dumb-dumb" at just about any auto parts store.

Unfortunately that won't work because the water that gets past the rubber seal and into the door is what causes the damage. When the window is up, there's nothing between the water and the inside of the door panel if the water shield is missing.
