For those who have an aftermarket gauge, which did you prefer? The electric partial sweep is easier to install and costs less. The full sweep mechanical is more expensive and tougher to install but it's more granular in the temp range. What did you all choose?
I always choose mech for the full sweep (elec full sweep is just not happening for me) for temp gauges ( I mix them - I have elec OP and mech temp guages, for instance).
I live in a hot climate so temps are constantly monitored, and with some elec temp gauges, the needle's width can be worth 20*F (if that makes sense).
I also kind of think mech might be less likely to deterioriate calibration-wise over time, but that is just my conjecture (with the quality gauges out there, I think this line of thinking is obsolete).
I dont think really think mech is too much harder to run, sans getting the sender bulb through the firewall (I am trying to say it is harder but it is worth it).
LOL - I'll be sure to take some Thanks for your input. I know exactly what you mean by "the width of the needle..." That's what I don't like about the partial sweep electric guages.
