water to air intercooler water pump install

So I have a 331 stroker with a vortech s/c.And I've painstakingly installed a water to air intercooler.I couldn't find an install so I figured it out my self.So now I need help installing my eletric water pump.I took my a/c pump off.And tried to use the electric current from that and it didn't work.And then I tried something else and set it on fire.These things are 60 bucks a pop.So I don't want to burn it up again.So can anybody help?Or send me the way of some one who can?I live in san diego CA but I just don't trust shops.Please help if you can.

You tried to use the A/C's clutch signal wire to power an electric water pump? No offense but you might be better off taking a chance on an experienced shop before you burn the car to the ground!

Seriously though... You need a relay that will trigger when the engine is running. Not when the ACC ignition switch is on. A 30 amp should be MORE than enough. Wire your pump through the relay through some 10g wire and the remote portion of the relay to the fuse panel or wherever else you can pull engine on power from.

How do I post a picture?Because this is ugly and I'm sure people will get a laugh out of how I did it.And now I under stand why its better to just do the fox body mustang then the intercooler install.

That and by Vortechs own admission those water to air intercoolers are basically worthless.

I don't think I'd heard that before. What's wrong with their system? Is it too small or something?

i think what Kurt is eluding to is that the water temperature doesn't cool the air down that far to make it worth it for a centrifugal supercharger.

If you're talking about the Vortech Powercooler, then yeah, it's so small it does virtually nothing. There were some before and after dyno tests published on it not long ago, and the difference in power was almost non existant. Hardly makes up for the electric power it takes to spin the pump. It was obvious to me when Vortech started advertising the damn thing by saying "hardly any loss in boost pressure." Well, let's see, it's almost a closed system, and Pressure x Volume / Temperature is constant, so no change in boost pressure means it's not doing a damn thing.

On the contrary Kurt, you have to consider that a cooler air charge will allow increased boost pressures (smaller pulley) as well as more aggressive timing which would result in much more horsepower.

I've seen first and a good friend with an '03 Mach 1. He ran the Vortech setup without the cooler and then with it and he gained a lot power. Without the cooler he was limited on how much boost and timing he could run without running into detonation. Vortech's cooler does exactly what the intercooler setups on the Eaton supercharged vehicles (Lightning and Cobra).

I know a cooler air charge will allow you to run more boost, but the Vortech thingy doesn't cool very well.

air to waters are designed for the track where you can run ice water, in which case they are VERY effective..

For street cars, air to air is the best choice

I wonder how Vortech's cooler would work if they used a front mount heat exchanger for it instead of a cold water reservoir?

Yeah, if you put ice in the tank it does get a little better. I still think spending the extra money no a good air to air is worth every penny.
