weight of stock heads

how much does a pair of stock heads weight?

I remember the HPBook "How to Rebuild a Small Block Ford" saying that their about 50 pounds each. Now, their heavy, but i dunno if their THAT heavy. maby 35-40 pounds.
oh, thats cast 289 heads.

The stock 289 heads weigh in at 55 lbs (each) fully dressed. Every one I've shipped weighed that on UPS's scales. 50 lbs bare. FE heads weigh the same, strangely enough.

I'm with D. Hearne....I have weighed them too and got the same figures as he. Aluminum heads should weigh about half that.

About 50lbs a piece for shipping. About 300lbs a piece if you are carrying them across a large swap meet field.

well, at least a third of an FE head is actually part of the intake. I have no idea why they designed it that way, but on FEs, its the intake thats the beast almost as much, perhaps moreso, than the heads.

Yeah, the FE intake is 70+ lbs of cast iron... try putting THAT on by yourself without a crane, comealong, or strap!
