what would be the cheapest..least appearance affecting...and most effective way to pull some weight off of my 95 gt?

I think we should have a weight reduction sticky, I could manage one if it is made a sticky and update it with every part people weigh.

ok lets start
11-15 smog pump and parts removal. the weight will be disputed
8- dog bone- weight under your rear
7- jack and tire iron
4- floormats
25- spare tire
40- side impact beams in doors
5.5- trunk carpet and board
8- these brackets that are behind the rear wheels. its a rubber wedge with pipes
5- carbon canister
18- a/c blower/heater core
36- a/c compressor and lines
5- condensor
30- from switcing form the stock h to a MAC ORH
4- quad shocks. if you get LCAs you dont need these.
10- strut tower brace
17- front sway bar with mounts
??- ABS brackets
??- cruise controll stuff
??-rear spoiler
3- front wheel well covers

if you leave the hole it is even lighter. I personally made my own rear seat delete and left the bottom cushion in the car. It weighs only a couple pounds and my 6'6 friends can still ride in the back. Doing half a rear seat delete gives the back seat passengers 3-4 inches more much needed leg room.

10- empty your windshield wiper fluid reservoir. it is not heavy enough to warrant removal. it weighs a pound. I converted my reservoir to work as a catch can for my radiator and eliminated the overflow tank and brackets. This was worth at least 5 pound savings

??- Miscelaneous brackets - there are several brackets that are a pound or less all over the car./ you will find you dont need these. I just remove as I find them.
the metal bracket under the steeing column.
the bracket in the center console box
in the kick panel by the computer

Wallet mods:

tubular K stock is 58 an aftremarket will weigh 18-26 pound
A arms stock are 26 pounds together after market will weigh about 10-12
aluminum heads expect 48+ pounds weight savings
Drive shaft- stock is 22 FRPP is 12. this is also rotational mass, so small power gains can be seen.
Coilovers- stock springs are 9 a piece while coilovers are 5-6
Prostars- will also reduce rotational mass
8- 15x3.5
12- 15x12

Trans T-5 w/o bellhousing 75
Trans 3550 w/o bellhousing 100
Trans T-56 w/bellhousing 115-129
Trans TKO w/o bellhousing 100

wow nice list you have put together. As of now Im at about 70LBS of weight savings as soon as I remove the dog bone for the 3.55 gear install. Id like to get all the smog stuff out of there too.

if u have a notch....u can cut the X-bracing out of the decklid

or u can do the same on the hood(to an extent)

porting heads can save like 20lbs

I had no idea our cars had side impact door bars... My 94 GT convertible doesnt.. Maybe its a coupe or 95 thing? My 01 Does on the other hand.

Ive done every weight reduction on that list and more, wonder where that puts me on the scale Im hoping to have a 3200lb race weight, vert

If you have a vert you can remove the 25 pound "canister" from under the front bumper. It is located right behind the passenger side fog light. I believe it is called a "vibration dampener" but many people have removed it and had no problems. I think I am going to remove mine this weekend.

rear spoiler weighs 11 pounds, dog bone 9, all of the smog equipment weighs approx 11. im going to go weigh my seats cause i think its alot more then 37 pounds. my car weighs in a 3200 with 1/2 tank of gas

since were on the subject, I too would also like to help out, so as soon as my pulley's arrive, i'll put those on the scale along with the stocker's, and also some aftermarket steel. Yeah yeah I know, but hey gotta help this community some how.

OK...I'm not trying to flame you here as I believe there is some very good weight reduction ideas in your post, but some of your weights are off.

Man...I sure hope you're not referring to these:

I too had "heard" that by removing these you could save 5lbs or so. Well...I got under there back behind the rear tire and removed them. Hmmm...they sure feel light. I weighed them on an accurate scale and guess what...they were not even ONE POUND EACH!!! No way 8lbs. Also...they were packed full of dirt, so if I had cleaned them up, we're talking very light, just some plastic that is basically hollow.

My FULLY ASSEMBLED AFR's, which are about the lightest aluminum heads you can get, were about 27lbs each. Fully assembled stock E7's are about 44lbs each. That's about 34lbs savings, not 48+, you're about 15lbs too much there.

I won't touch upon everything as there were others, but be carefuly what you hear and don't just "assume". Some are very good weight savings, others are not even worth taking out.

Some people worry too much about taking out a pound here or there when there is an easy 40lb or 50lbs they can take off by doing one thing...a DIET

Like I said, good information in your post and I"m not trying to make you look bad...there was just some errors.

I'm with snoozer... I was up at Epping NH a year or so ago and this guy talking about how much weight he had dropped from his camaro. The dude was like 5'10 260. Stop hittin the cupcakes after the strip and you're talkin minimum 60 pound weight reduction. How many fat Nascar drivers are there?

I notice things as i'm taking apart my smashed up ol blue...
the big black plastic piece that runs from headlight to headlight and holds your pony in place weighs more than you might think. If i get my car back together, i'll just take a couple pieces of aluminum and bolt two brackets for the headlights.
Also, get rid of the fog lights and bracketry if you got them. It's easy to do when you have the bumper apart.
If you have a stereo with subs, it's easier than you would think to run your battery to the trunk. I have a stock sized battery, no cap, and a 4 gauge wire going from my engine bay to the trunk already. Custom made boxes make putting in the batter a sinch. Plus, the mounting stuff for the battery can easily be put in the trunk to hold that thing REALLY secure.
You have a bunch of foam behind the bumper which could save weight, but don't remove it - - it made my accident so nice i basically watched the airbags go off and didn't even have my head leave the seat.
AC - Now THAT's a big delete. You all about power and weight? Get rid of it and start to run those foxes, done deal.
Wiring. Instead of having tons of wires going everywhich way, organize them and regroup them and save y ourself like .001 lb's, but make it look a lot cooler.
I'm making a list of things i find while taking it all apart, so i may come back with some things...
oh yeah, the hood liner can come out if you open up the little vents.

Why does it matter how fat someone is to you? So there is no use making a mustang lighter because someone is fat... that makes a lotta sense . Im fat and thats just more reason to make my car lighter weight

Someone correct me please but that black box on the pass side under the hood is not called a vibration dampner. That is what the dog bone does. I cannot see how that box could dampen any vibrations. I think that is emission equipment, but I have been wrong before.

black box? i thought it was a big 25 lb weight! I have seen pictures of it and it looks like a big tootsie roll with "25 lbs" written on it. then again, i don't have a vert, so i don't have that problem.
And yes, weight matters. If ya can't lose weight, do it on your car, just tell people you're losing weight, and THAT's why you did .001 better in the quarter.

you were suposed to take more than the rubber/plastic pieces out

and gt40 heads are 58 pounds fully assembled.

if I dieted and lost 50 pounds i would die.

shame on me for worrying about a pound here and there... all it did was get me into the 12s

the 37 was the weight of the seat minus the weight you put on with a solid rear seat delete.

nd does anyone know if there are side impact bars in the GT?
