Today after doing some highway driving, i went to the mall and shut off my car. i tried to start it again a couple minutes later but would start and promptly die. fuel pressure at prime was under 20 psi, and the fuel pump made a weird whizzrrrrrr noise whenever the key was turned on.

i had it towed home (that was around 4) and i just tried it now and primed ok, fuel pump noise was normal, and it started fine. wtf?

btw it is a 255 lph pump from TREperformance and yes i know ive heard bad things about them. i thought the hose had blown off the pump, inside the tank. but now it works...what should i check? i just filled the tank today.

Aeromotive? I smell a nice upgrade coming on. There's tons of companies that make good pumps though. Walbro, BBK, Holley, Edelbrock you name it. Just hit Summit's website and see what you come up with if you decide to do the pump. Hope it works out for you. Is the pump in it actually a TRE brand or is it just another brand pump you bought from them?

well yeah...idk if i said it but i have an aeromotive afpr and i dont think those go bad often. the noise the pump made was like it would be if there was no gas in the tank at all. or if the pump motor became disconnected from the impeller. idk.

When pumps are on the outs, they tend to start getting weak or fail when hot (the diaphram gets floppy).

ahh, so i should replace it then...
with my setup, what is the lowest lph pump i should use?
i'd rather get a good quality say, 155 lph, than a cheapo 255 lph
i have 30 lb injectors

I'd do more diagnostics. Since you can apparently see Fuel pressure in real time, it should be easy to watch pressure drop as the car craps out (and see pressure stay low subsequently when it wont restart).

You can carefully crimp the fuel return line when it craps out and see if pressure builds. If it does, that suggests the aforementioned FPR. If pressure doesnt change, I personally would think pump or delivery impediment.

I'd get a Walbro from a very reputable seller (Dave at JD's is a great guy in my book and who I got my last pump from, for instance). The difference in price between a crap 255 and a Walbro 255 should not be much.

MHO. Good luck with diagnostics and parts swapping.
