Hi this is my first post here but i have been using this site for a long time to find answers to some questions about my Fox so thanks.
Now down to business. I have a 91 Mustang GT that has been bored over and stroked to a 331. It has been modified quite a bit (electric fan, oversized radiator, afr heads, heavy cam, bigger injectors, msd, etc..). I have had the car for about 2 years and this summer was when i started getting issues. I will be driving and the coolant temp will usually be around the middle of the gauge probably 200 degrees and it will slowly creep up to 3/4 of the gauge which is probably around 240 degrees. Then out of nowhere the engine losses power as if i turned the key completely off but i still have power to everything else (dash, radio, lights, etc..). It only happens when at high temp so when i stop at a light it will happen but it has started doing it while going down the road. The temp doesn't seem to go down at all while driving. The temp was that high while doing 70 down the interstate. When it shuts down i am able to crank back up after about 4 seconds of then engine turning. It turns as if there were no spark or gas getting to it then slowly starts to chug then catches and fires right up.
I have changed the thermostat, distributor and TFI, flushed the coolant, fuel filter (looked clean),and the fuel pressure is 42 psi with vacuum off at cold start.
I'm not sure if the fuel pump might be bad causing the overheating due to being too lean then eventually shutting off and causing the engine to shut down. Maybe even trash in the tank blocking the pump. Any opinions on what might be wrong or what to check first?
Forgot to mention its about 95 degrees outside everyday.
