Weird question on insurance

I have never thought of it until now, but I am pouring a bunch money into my Stangs engine this spring. If the worst were to happen and it gets smashed to pieces do I get adjusted for the money I have put in aftermarket parts?

Do I need to call my insurance company (State Farm) and tell them about the work that is being done and provide receipts?

I just asked Geico this the other day and they said just call them up and let them know anytime I add extras onto my car and if possiable provide reciepts or pics but was not mandatory. So I took pics of what I do have and emailed them and from now on any part I add I am giving them a copy of the reciept to be sure its all covered. Neat thing is they said they dont charge extra for it

please do not insure ur car through gieco lol. i manage a body shop and have to deal with them and the way they treat the customers constantly, i wouldnt wish them on my worst enemy. they are cheap for a reson.

IDK Geico has been good to me. Running a shop I am sure you deal with plenty of their customers so you have a wider view. But when my hood flipped up on the Fox they were real fast and verry helpful. When my buddies T/A was hit while parked they were right on it and gave him a rental. No hassels at all

I dropped Geico years ago because they say just add it no cost and then won't pay out because you didn't pay the extra cost for upgrades. Then they like to low ball all of their estimates and make you put after market parts on your car that don't fit right and won't pay the body shop to do the extra work required to get proper fitament on the after market parts. Pay a little extra and get what you really want when your car gets repaired the job done right.

screw that, i never tell my insurance company anything. im 19, they dont even want me driving...at all, and on my 98 GT, when i got my stereo system installed, back when i was 16. Like, speakers, in-dash, subs, amp (basically the works) i informed them, and it went up, stupidly too. I just look at it this way now, if i invest in it, and something happens. its my lose. God forbid. but whatever, i hate insurance companies. They all blow, especially in cali.

I'm with state farm and my insurance covers my car up to $25,000. I would assume that they just pay you up to that amount as long as you can prove you have those parts on your car..

I don't see how adding parts to my car would raise my rate since I have $25,000 and if I go over that then it's out of my pocket. I already pay to have the $25,000.

exactly, they force the shop to use aftermarket parts that rarely fit, and they like to cut the paint time on a panel and tell u to blend the paint in the panel, when i-car clearly says that this is not a suitable repair and will not last long. they will rush out and write u a chicken crap estimate to make u think they are doing good, then the body shop u take it to has to deal with all their bs. gieco isnt the only one either, progressive is another thats just as bad, also farmers is getting pretty bad lately as well. stick with a company like alpha, state farm, or aig, they will take care of u.

I left Geico when they dropped my student discount, I'm much happier with USAA (though not every one can get that... if you have a Military relative you can though)....

I have Geico now. They didn't screw me over in the estimate/salvage on my car. The only thing I can say is that they other lady still hasn't called and it's been 30 days. Now they are sending some letter and giving her 15 more days. My only complaint right now.
