Hello guys. I just took the 5.0 out for a spin after getting my exhaust and newly rebuilt tranny finally buttoned up. I drove it to the hardware store to pick up some supplies for some overdue house projects and on the way back 1st 2nd and 3rd started making this chattering noise like there is a rock crusher in the tranny. I feel it all the way up the shifter. Oddly enough 4th doesn't complain at all. 5th I doubt would be affected since its on its own out back. In N there is a faint sound of it too as long as the clutch is out(foot off the clutch). The tranny was rebuilt by my friend and I(me probably being the cause of error) with the hanlon kit with the video. It is filled with 2.75 quarts of Redline D4. Any ideas because im kind of stumped. Either way I gotta take it out to see whats wrong but any ideas what to look forward to is greaty appreciated.

I forgot to add that I had 10 miles on the tranny before this happened and it still drives just fine. Just sounds like hell. Trusty stang got me back home in one piece.

sounds like one of the shift rods in the case may be rubbing against something, but it could be anything.prolly have to yank the unit and pop the top of the case off.if you put light pressure on the shifter does that change the pitch any? since you hear it in neutral as well look at the cluster shaft if u end up pulling the unit.fom the sound youre describing I doubt it could be the T/O bearing.
JMHO. good luck.

Thanks for the replies. I have a MGW. I didn't readjust it when I put it in. Are you talking about the shift stops? I'll start there since it would be easier than dropping the tranny. Thanks for the suggestions
