OK, I posted in another thread about not being able to get my car in gear at a rest, but I am adjusting the cable and little by little it is getting better.

The other thing my car was doing was this: Shifting at 5500 RPMs going from 3rd to 4th it felt like I was getting MASSIVE wheel hop, the whole car would stutter and shake around. Obviously I do not have the power to get wheel hop in 4th gear so the only other thing I can think of is that my clutch was chattering really bad. Would this be caused by the same loose cable?

Please give some input, it happened twice and doesn't happen every time I shift into 4th.

boy, you'd almost think nobody on this site owns or has driven a 5-speed ever. Come on guys, any ideas as to what could make my car shake violently going into 4th gear?

hum that happend to me also once it never happened again after i got out the car it really smelled like burned out clutch so i just assumed i didnt press it in all the way and every time i get aroudn those RPMs i make sure the clutch is ALL the way in adn it hasent happened again go out and test to see if it repeats when you know FOR SURE that the clutch is all the way in and u are shifting right

im not calling you a noob driver but some times you get so used to normal drivign ( shifting with out using the clutch pedal at times or barely taping it especially when shifting 3-4th or 4-5th gear) that when you do need to use the clutch you dont do it right

is the clutch bad? throw-out bearing? My friend had a problem getting into gears and we ended up taking out the clutch - clutch looked fine, and the throw-out bearing didn't. we ended up replacing clutch + bearing and ev'ry thing works okay now on his '00 mustang GT.

BTW - from what the book read, these are self adjusting clutch pedals. That was on the '00 GT manual, I cannot speak for the '03. How are you manually adjusting that thing? Just curious.

I have an aftermarket quadrant and firewall adjuster. This seems to be curing the problem a little bit at a time. I adjust it a little more every time I drive it and it seems to be getting better. I don't think my clutch was disengaging all the way.

Awsome, how do you like it? Personally, I hate the cable setup on my '66 stang w/ T-5 tranny, but it's not a firewall adjuster... i might have to look into that.

So, have you ruled out that your clutch is not bad, and the throwout bearing is okay? I'm curious on that... have you had these replaced already? If not, how many miles are currently on your clutch? Depending on driver I've heard these can last up to 100K miles... I'm on 68K in my '99 GT with everything stock except the oil, filters and tires... and I have problems getting into Reverse, thats 'bout it.

Well, I replaced the clutch about 7000 miles ago and went with a Centerforce Dual Friction clutch. I'm sure it's still good. The TOB was replaced at the same time and last time I looked in there was when I had to install the firewall adjuster and quadrant. (About 1000 miles ago)

I love the adjuster, I got the Fiore Performance one. I also have problems getting into reverse sometimes, but I think that's because reverse doesn't have synchros. (Or so I've been told.)

No offense, but are you sure you got the TOB on correctly, and is it the correct one for the clutch? I assume it came with it...

Yea, I hate the reverse thing issue... I cope it by throwing it in first and barely moving forward before I throw it back into reverse. Making the car roll forward or backward usually helps me get it in gear.

I guess I'm stumped on your issue. Made anymore adjustments to that clutch to see if it helps out anymore?

Yeah, the TOB is on correctly and it is the correct one.

To get my car in reverse I usually put it in 4th without moving and then just put it over into reverse, usually goes right in then.

I haven't driven the car recently, so we will see what happens next time I drive it
