Weld axle tubes with a mig?

Anyone ever have any luck welding axle tubes with a mig welder, while the rear-end is still assembled. Will this put to much heat in it? Will it warp my tubes?

I wouldnt do this unless you have the diff in a jig or else you could have some problems with warping. If your tubes are already out of alignment it will make it worse.
