i am in my firast year collage, deploma for qwelding. mig welding is a walk in the park aside from stick, stick is not hard but mig isamuch easyer weld and isa better for thin metal 1/4 is the loweast i've welded with stick i wouldnt go no lower, 6011 6010 and 7018 1/8as and 3/32s are the most popular welding electrodes for stick nowadays

Do some search over on weldtalk... http://www.hobartwelders.com/mboard/

I myself went with a HH180 (smoking deal) and fabricated my turbo kit with it.

The rule of thumb when buying a welder is...go with the largest one you can afford...and then buy the next one up. I've always been told..beeing a little "over sized" isnt a bad thing.

After tomorrow, I'll take some pictures of the welds that I put together in class. Then I guess I can get you guys to tell me if I'm heading in the right way.

if you're taking a class for it I'm sure you're heading in the right direction.
