Welding axle tubes/torque boxes

What is the downside to this? It seems like a simple mod everyone should do and probably should have been done right at the factory. I'm thinking about getting it done when I get the subframes welded in if there are no negative effects. I'm assuming most service departments aren't going to go ape **** over this little stuff right?

The reason it doesnt come from the factory is because its not needed at all. Its not an easy job...probably take at least 5 hours. You have to take the rear end out of the car to do this...which is a project in itself.

1. There are plenty of people that have torn the mounting points with fairly low horsewpower cars on DRs and slicks. This has been a problem from the days of the Fox-bodies.

2. Rear-end removal is not required. A local performance shop quoted me $100 to do all the welding. $100<5hrs

1. The car doesn't come with drag radials from the factory and is not intended to be raced. Why should ford do this for a small % of racers.

Welding axle tubes took me about an hour. The actual welding was maybe 15-20 min. Did all the work without removing the differential and the car was sitting on jack stands. I drained my gear oil and replaced my cover at the same time. Fun project and good piece of mind when it come to rear end strength.

Holy crap that's a lot of money for what is 20 minutes worth of work.
