about 2 weeks ago I had my belt shred on me, stranded me 100 miles from home on the side of the road with barely any tools. I caught a ride to the local O'rielly's and bought what I could to swap the belt. 2 1/2 hours later I was back on the road. I need gas, so I stopped about 2-3 miles down for a fill up. while filling up I decided to check on the new belt and make sure I had everything right.

To my horror I found oil EVERYWHERE!!! Looks like I had pushed the oil return form the vortech into the crank pulley which in turn ate the hose in no time. I lost a considerable amount of oil, but it never dropped pressure and never made any noise. I fdixed the line.. added some oil and was on my way.... Not so lucky. It caused just enough damage to score the #1 rod bearing, in turn eating my crank... so I am back to square 1. I have some other things to pay for before I can put MORE money into this car. It is gonna be down AGAIN.. for awhile

Wow man, thats horrible. Sounds like just some crappy-@ss luck... but at least you have a contingency plan. Are you going 03/04 cobra 4V or N/A 4V and building it up on your own? Also, it sounds like you don't have too much luck with S/C belts, thats a sign you should opt for a TT setup

Okay folks, heres the big deal with Vortech SC's...when the charger bracket gets mounted, its critical to follow the installation directions to the letter. one of the timing stud mounting locations REQUIRES a washer between the hole and the mounting bracket....and thread lock needs to be used in the bolt threads....if the SC is out of alignment it will eat belts and lead to mayhem

Man dude that sucks! A real oil gauge would have probably prevented this...the stocker probably wont move until your pan is bone dry .

I did alot of research on the subject...lets see.

A. if your going to "build" a 4V and then throw your S/C on it...I would say stay with 2V. H/C 2Vs usually make MORE power than 03-04 4V cars when using a S/C. Unless you throw cams or heads ($$$$) on a 4V...they get beat.

B. if you buying a complete 4V thats already built (03-04 cobra engine) then go for it.

Reason beng is that a comeplete engine would eb a fairly easy swap...but If you have to piece it togethor, it may get annoying...and there really wont be a power difference if you leave the heads and cams stock.

Good luck man!

well a buddy of mine has a wrecked car (GT) he put a built 4V in maybe 200 miles before the wreck. it was a vortech 15lb blown eninge making over 650. I am gonna see if I can talk him out of it.

If not, then I will go back with some good dished pistons and blower cams in mine and push 650 anyway lol.

Well if the price is right, then go 4V. Otherwise, put your money to another built 2V block.
