might not be a drain back hole but its def a casted hole for sure

On your 2nd pic you posted. At the very top center of the pic. I can't tell what it is. Doesn't really matter the hot tank/magnaflux will tell you if there's a problem.

its shaped like a leaf and looks like a flake of metal, I see it and on first pic there is a hair line on the right middle,
