Did my first road race event. It was a very awesome experience. The course is a 1.35 mile course. Below is a picture of the course, from their website......
My Best time was 1:15.42. The best time of the day was done with an SVO mustang with race tires and an experienced driving and he did it in 1:09.87. The last event I ran in I started 1st, lapped 3 cars, an 88 Saleen, a 2001 Gt and a turbo Sentra that ran really strong all day. For my first time event it was a great experience and I definitely want to do it again. My Saleen handled amazingly. The new 4 piston Brembo brakes were incredible. I could drive hard into any turn and hit the brakes as hard as I like and they never faded or locked up. I did have some trouble with my ****ty street tires but only when I came out of a turn and got into the boost, the tires wanted to brake loose everytime so I had to feather the pedal some but I went from a 1:17.65 laps to my fastest lap I stated earlier. I know now these Saleens are meant to be driven and hard on a course. My first time out I had a co-pilot "instructor". he's a guy I know that has an SVO that ran a best 1:12.36 lap times. His car has some great mods to his engine and he was running some road race tires. He was very impressed with how my car handled and how strong the brakes are. He definitely helped me and showed me how to drive the car into turns. With more practice and some sticky tires I feel I could definitely get much better times. The main event of the day was a friend, Tony, that has a brand new Ford GT!!! He brought it to the track and with with his arm hanging out the side like on a Sunday cruise he turned a 1:16 laps right off..... he wasn't even pushing the car. I can see where he would of been turning 1:00 flat times easily if he had pushed the car. he gave rides to two lucky winnners of a bidding raffle. It cost them $120.00 EACH to take a ride in the car. Alot of money but I can only imagine how it felt. I think my next investment in my car will definitely be some sticky tires for the courses. I will be going back!!!

It's located in Talladega AL. Straight out I-20 to exit 185 in alabama, turn left go 12 miles and it's on the left. Oxford Alabama is the exit actually. I'm doing it for the fun as well and enjoyed myself immensely. I live in Douglasville so I'm only 34 miles from the alabama line, it's about 67 miles total for me from my door to the track. The SVT Cobra club is having a day out there October 29th.

Sounds like alot of fun, but also sounds risky with how much work you've got into your car.

Risky yes, but I know the mechanic personally (haha) and the added upgrades to the brakes and the 17" wheels really showed their worth. I just knew not to over push the car and paid very close attention to how she handled.

OK as promised...... photos taken at the track. The first shot is of me about to lap an 05Gt, the second is after I had cleared him.
I hope you like.
I'm trying to get some of the video taken as well.

One more...... picture of my Saleen in the pits behind the FORD GT. The guy in the blue is the one that paid $120.00 for a ride in the car.

Nice pics and great write up George. I really wish I had my fox body together. It will drive circles around my S351R on a short road course. Looks like you had a great time. Great job staying on the tarmac. Last Thursday my friend with a brand new Porsche GT3 did some powdered doughnuts with it and it's in the shop. His buddy with a GT2 hit the wall and his car burst in flames. Both airbags and the car was a total loss.
