take out the fuel pump relay, you dont want it trying to spray fuel in the motor when your doing the test.

If you use a remote starter switch and have the ignition off,it`s not necessary.

good news guys!

turned out my tick was just a blown header gasket!
i went to a guy i knew, he did the machine work on my heads and block etc. he is a real knowledgable guy and i trust his word over anyone.

he didnt have a stethoscope but you can use a rubber tube to help you listen.

he used a tube and concluded the the gasket was blown around the #5 exhaust port... he said if it was a lifter, it would have been a more rapid tick than it was. but this tick was slower, since it was only doing it every exhaust pulse, not relative to the lifter, there is more lifter movement in a crankshaft revolution....

and i think i have a fuel problem for it running so weak....

you couldnt be spinning that bad, 1.9 60' is decent, its obvious something is wrong if your only getting 95mph. Definatly the parts you had on there was capable of 12's.

What trips me out is that your launching at near 6Krpm yet only a 1.9 60'??? I was getting low 1.8's launching at 1800rpm and my combo was similar. Something is wrong.

Yea i agree, I wouldnt see the need to launch at 6k rpm either, Id expect tons of tire spin even on dr's. I launch my et streets at around 2k, and I got a 1.8 60' as well, anything above that and they dont hook, they dont spin, but you can feel the suspension just bouncing around and not hooking.

Dont forget to hold the throttle wide open while doing the compression test.. You wont get correct numbers if the throttle is closed

how could they be messed up??

when i bought them i had them checked. there were 2 slightly bent valves. i have stock valves laying around all over so i gave them to my machinist and he fixed it...

i mean if thumper did the porting they still are thumper head. they couldnt change except for damage which was repaired anyway....

maybe it just wasnt making enough power, so it would hook up there. maybe my stock fuel pump is starving it. the engine runs fine, it fires all the time and tuns smooth, just doesnt have the power....

i thought that was the biggest thing that didnt make any sense.

one run with a stock engine. I had different tires, but i launcedh at maybe 4 k tops and got a 1.9. it took a rev limiter launch to get a 1.9....

I ran a 13.6 with bald tires, with thumpers and a stock cam in 96 degree heat. He should be running at least what I ran. This isn't a thumpers vs 12 seconds argument.

FoxFan. You moved your power band by advancing the cam. Advancing gives you more low end so you will likely loose top end. I would guess this may explain the mph loss.
I would have stuck the cam in straight up.

Mike leaves the stock valves unless you pay for the larger ones. He knows they are thumpers because mike stamps TPR PER on the top of the head, and his have that stamped on them.

yeah what they said, stock valves and my heads have his stamp. I even emailed mike the pics of the heads the guy sent me and he said they were his. most people dont totally grind out the exhaust guide boss, mike does and these heads were ported like that, no guide boss.
the guy that checked him out, he super smart car guy and has is older and has his own machine shop. he commented on the good port work, saying it would help alot.

there is no question, they are thumpers for sure.

i launched higher and higher bc it seemed to hook alright. if my engine was making the power it was supposed to, it probably would have blown the tires off at that high of a rpm. it hook at 6k and only managed a 1.9 which seems strange...

i ordered a 190lph holley pump today

How do you go about doing these corrections?

the first thing you do is when you get home find out the weather data for when you ran.. a website like www.weatherunderground.com is great for this.. if you go to the weather station history there you can get it down to the minute you ran..

the info you want is.. temp, humidity and baro presure.. plus you need to know the track alt.

Then you take that and you can go to modular depot, they have the calulators on there site, plus if you do a search for them on google you will find them.
