whadya think so far of the FMIC?

this is all i got done so far.....

Disco'd the battery of course!

removed the SC inlet & outlet, along with the BPV

removed the front bumper, foam padding, grille, and the hood latch support rod (and PS cooler - ill probly replace it with a bigger B&M unit)

reclocked the SC - this took a WHILE because not only did i reclock the SC, but the s trim on my stang has about 32k on it. i had an s trim (also V2) lying aroudn with 2200 miles on it, but it had a curved discharge. SO i swapped the pulleys, oil feed & drains, and outlets, then reinstalled the new blower w/ the old outlet on the bracket, and put it back on the engine (with the outlet still loose so i can play with it)

i decided to put the FMIC behind the bumper because i dont want to deal with weakening the bumper, and having to bring it to my pals house, cut it, weld it, etc. etc.

this is the drivers side (inlet) with a 90 degree pipe on it - had part of the wheel well removed for this pic. im probly going to buy a 90 degree coupler for the end of that metal tubing.....

in this pic you can see the tubing coming from the SC outlet. the 90 degree union is going to mate these two together (most likely)

passenger side (outlet) - IIRC this is a 70 degree tube? im going to cut out part of the metal to pass the tubing through

this is my ghetto way of moutnign the FMIC for fabbin purposes. im going to buy a big piece of that metal that you see there so i can rigid mount it (more rigid at least)

this is coming from the SC to the drivers side IC inlet. a small 7" section of straight pipe, going to a 45 degree bend.

well thats it for tonight!!! im beat and i need to order a couple more pieces. what do you think so far? quesitons/comments/criticism is welcome! help me improve it if possible! i still need to get the coupler for the feed side, get a -04an straight fitting, and change the fitting in the oil filter adapter to -04an, so i can use my handy-dandy braided S.S. oil feed hose, probly order t-bolt clamps and silicone unions depending on how much $$$ i have. finish the passenger side IC outlet, cut the body up, get hose for the BPV, mount the IAT sensor, mount the IC itself, tighten up the SC outlet bolts, put the belt on, snug down and loc-tite the bolts on the SC, put the bumper back on and align it, clean my K&N filter, install a power steering cooler if i dont re-use the stock one, refill teh fluid, and take her for a spin!!!! then after that, FMS 3.73 gears :)
 
VERY nice! We just did the same thing tonight LOL...mounted the IC. Fun stuff, and looks cool just seeing cores through the bumper.

FYI, we cut my bumper too...but not like most. We cut the back side of it (its half thick, the length of the IC) to allow more room between the bumper and IC as we mounted ours behind the bumper too. (but its soooo tall it has to be behind the bumper...cant be under it)


You may want to temperarily put your bumper cover back on and see what will be showing through the botom epening...if you see cores, then your all good. If not, you may want to cut the bottom of the bumper and mount the IC under that so it sets a bit lower to expose the cores to the air flow. :nice:

Cool build your own and stick it to the man.

When you place the intercooler that close to the radiator it messes up the airflow to the IC and the radiator.

The Ac cooler and radiator also helps transfer heat back into the IC after all it has near boiling water traveling through it.

If you notice on the bottom of the radiator support there is a deflector that is intended to push air up and over the radiator but now it can't because you have the bottom of the Ic there.

Also air will travel through the IC easier if it's not right up against something like the hot radiator what goes in must go out. Not to mention that you're also covering part of the IC core with the bumper itself.

I bought the cheapest IC I could find on ebay that was the size I was looking for. About 135 shipped for a 31x12x3 with 3" outlets

With this Iat my temps never went over 26* above ambient at 12psi. Pretty good for a $135 IC. But I think a lot of it had to do with placement.

Thats not the radiator its next to....its the A/C condensor. There is like no heat in that thing....you can touch it when the car is hot, and feels like normal temperature :shrug: . Mine is touching the A/C condenser....and im not worried in the least about it.
Besides my functial hood will be pulling a low pressure on the engine bay, helping pull air through the radiator/AC/IC.
Only thing im worried about is overheating when im on the gas hard...just hot air will be going through my radiator.
 
so today i put REAL top mounts in to hold the FMIC up, cut a tube to finish up the IC inlet side, puleld the blower BACK off, snugged down teh bolts on teh discharge, put loctite on the pulley bolts, and the bracket bolts and snugged them down. now i jstu have to finish the IC outlet side, tehn pull ALL the pipes off, and clean them out, reinstall, put the bumepr back o0n, etc. etc.

the only time that condensor should get hot is with the a/c running. then you will burn your hand on that thing
 
Ok, no wonder...never touched it with the A/C on.

But its a pretty good deal anyways...on adverage.

A. when you go WOT the A/C shuts off and the heat will start decreasing.
B. only time the IC has any realy heat is when your making boost...and most likely the AC will be off due to WOT.

So the 2 shouldnt be heating up mutually as best I can gather.
But the only part that is touching on mine is the very top of the IC where the air comes in hot anyways, the bottom and middle are not touching, but are pertty close.

But thanks for the info SVT :nice: . Ill be sure not to touch it anymore LOL...next time my AC may be on :eek: .
