I have a 98 Cobra convert. with a two stage Nitrous Express system installed. One of these days I would like to take it to the track to see what it can do. I've done a lot of suspention mods, but nothing with the clutch. If the car will run faster than mid 12s it needs an SFI approved clutch, flywheel, and a scattershield. As we all know, my bellhousing is cast into the transcase. Do I have to change trannies in order to compete, or will a blanket work? What does everyone else do? I'm not made of money, I just want to go have some fun with the Chevy boys.

Is that just your track? There's plenty of Mustangs here in the 11's running the stock transmission....

I was under the impression that was a standing NHRA rule. I know it used to be. Has that changed?

It's actually 11.99 or faster you need a scattershield and SFI clutch and flywheel...But I know our track, which is NHRA, doesn't enforce it on normal Test & Tune nights...The only rule they really enforce for the 11 sec or faster cars is having a roll bar...

Now if you plan on running in some sort of class in an organized event you might need all the saftey stuff, but for T&T nights I'm sure you'll pass tech just fine unless you go under 11.99

Here's a page with the NHRA rule book:

Thanks for the information and the link. I guess I'm set to go give the Chevy Boys a bad time.
