What actually causes the belt to "shred"? Supercharged Q

Ok so I got my blower and the day I got it back the belt hopped off the pulley and ripped....I figured this was cause of my 110k tensioner so I replaced that and all was good until last night.

I guess its been about a month but anyways, I was messing around and whipped a donut.

Then I heard that cool sound you get when your shredded belt is hitting every thing under the hood.

So I pull into my friends driveway and pop the hood and ripped off the rib that was shredded.

The thing is, the belt didnt pop off or anything.

The rib closest to the front of my car basically snapped in half since it didnt come off the pulley or anything.

Anyone know what could cause this?

I had a lexus that had some belt issues because the compressor mounting bolts broke and even though the compressor was still in place it would move just enough when RPMS increased that it would pop the belt off. If the belt was too tight it would come off right away, but if it's loose maybe this is the symptom? I mean you do have an aftermarket S/C so i'm sure it's not an exact science as to the size of belt? That's just speculation though as you can tell :nice:

high revs and then letting off the gas completely caused mine to jump the PS pulley and shred the edges off. i fixed my problem with an 8 rib kit

yea, I think that is one of the things that causes problems...high revvs then completely letting off.

Mine jumped when I first got it before the new tensioner but this one just kind of ripped.

The pulley looks like it is aligned perfectly so I guess I will see what happens with the new belt.

ok so I ripped the new larger belt in 2 days...

Maybe im using too big of a belt?

the 112.5 lasted like 1500 miles and this 112 and 7/8 was dont pretty much the first time I got on it.

Maybe I need to get a smaller belt?

I really dont think its teh alignment since the belt is popping off both ways.
