I am going to be doing heads/cams pretty soon, and I am trying to do my homework as to who to have do my heads. I am actually looking for someone that has any flow charts on a hand ported PI head. CNC'ed heads typically do not flow as well.

1. Anybody have any recommendations for getting a set of PI heads fully ported?

2. What kind of RWHP (corrected) can one realistically expect to the wheel with fully ported PI heads, a fairly stout set of cams, and full supporting bolt-ons?

look for 220+ cfm intake and 195+ cfm exhaust @ .500 lift.

i recoomend Modular Powerhouse.

fully built with cams and heads, you can get around 360-380rwhp.

If you plan to get full benefit from heads, you need to get some from MPH or VT.

I would think you would get aout 50 WHP with new heads and cams. And you need to be more specific when you say "full supporting bolt ons".

i gained 35rwhp from fox lake heads and cams. stage 2 heads and custom blower cam.

so theres more in those heads if i went with a na cam and stage 2 cam.

50 would be possible

The previous owner had this car dyno'ed at Coastal Dyno on their Mustang MD-250 dyno and it put down 423 to the tire on the 125 wet shot. So I am just assuming it is putting down 290-295 RWHP on motor. This car runs phenomally strong for a bolt on 2 valve 4.6. I'd really like to get around 370 RWHP with the heads/cams. I'm just trying now to decide on which cams to get mwe there. I don't mind sacrificing a little driveability for the sake of power, but I just don't want to make the car "not fun" to drive on the street.

you wont get anywhere near 370 rwhp na!!!!

the top , top na dogs get about 330rwhp.

you will every mod i have + instead of my cams youll need stage 2 or 3 na cams + youll need an aftermarket intake + under drive pullies + electric water pump. you might see 330rwhp if you do all this. if you do a built short block with high compression you might be able to see 350rwhp........all this should cost about a million dollars for 350 hp. spend your cash on a blower and youll be at 350 easy.

I'd check out Fox Lake or Patriot Performance for some reasonably priced, high flow ported heads. They flow every bit as well as the others some have suggested and won't take 4-6 months to turn them around.

I have talked with about 6-7 Mustang speciality shops around the country. They ALL say that most of the heads/cams, 1mm oversize valve 4.6 2 valve cars they dyno are around 350-375 RWHP depending on the heads and cams of course. 330 RWHP would be considered a relatively low number for a "properly" done heads/cams car. And yes, these are all stock bottom end cars.

Also if you do the math on a PI head that flows roughly 225-235 CFM peak, the basic mathematical formula (HP = CFM x 0.2575 x # cylinders) used by most engine builders dictates that a peak of 464 HP to the crank is possible with 225 peak CFM. Obviously that is pulling out all the stops.

The thing that lots of people, including yourself, don't realize is that there are lots of little "uncommon" tricks to making HP. Vacuum pumps, intake manifold runner length tuning, aggressive custom maps, custom grind camshafts, etc., etc.....the list goes on and on.

This motor in this car is definitely freakish. The 423 RWHP on a 125 shot, on a Mustang dyno no less, is nothing short of amazing. BTW, in case you were wondering, the jet sizes are 57 N20 jet, 31 fuel jet. That equates to roughly a 125 shot on a Ford 281" 2 valve SOHC. I am not sure how familiar you are with nitrous, but typically on these 4.6's, the "target" jetted HP is usually surpassed as evident in the common dyno numbers. Given this, I should be able to subtract roughly 125-135 RWHP to closely estimate the all motor RWHP. You do the math.

Honestly I didn't believe the previous owner when he told me the dyno results, until I drove over to Coastal Dyno and talked to Sam. He remembered the car, and remembered dyno tuning it.

Thanks for the advice. I have worked before with Patriot and they have always been well known in the LS1 community (yes I have an f-body ) to produce some very good bang for the buck heads. I will also give them a call and see what they have to say.

I think theres been a few horror stories here about crappy Patriot quality. I'd avoid them.

350+rwhp NA is very silly.
A 125 shot is a big deal indeed... making good power on that doesnt mean you have a freak super-car. More likely a used stock motor thats had a lot of stress on it from all the squirting.

well, man i dont know what kind of dynos you have going on around there but im disreguarding the nitrous as we are talking about na.

i will agree that the numbers seem good with the 125 shot but there is no way your bolt on car is making 295rwhp without heads or cams. i have never heard a 2valve making 295rwhp without cams. its just a fact i believe...these cars are just not that strong from the factory. they have to be modded heavy to gain some serious power.

also about the power you put out on the dyno with the 125 shot your saying was on a mustang dyno? i think the dynos are way off where you are at.

all im saying is i have these mods...i did alot of research before getting these mods and know other guys that have these mods. there are guys on here that have at least cams and they are putting out my numbers. 290rwhp. you will need cams to reach that number.

get your car dynoed na and you will see. if you do more research on here you will soon find out that its not even easy to hit 300rwhp.

here i will post up my actual flow numbers of personal fox heads. as you can see they flow as good as vt heads and less then mph heads. mph heads are prob. the best flowing pi heads on the market. i believe they remove the swirl dams though to get higher flow numbers. not 100% on that though.

also keep in mind higher flow numbers dont always mean higher hp.

also not all heads will flow as good as advertised. it depends on the application.

What are the average bone stock RWHP numbers on these motors with a 5 speed?

Adrenln, you are acorrect, CFM does not always equate to HP. There is a very fine line between velocity and flow. Too much flow and you can inhibit velocity. Consequently by working a head to only make good velocity can limit it's flow characteristics.

average bone stock rwhp is about 225rwhp. im sure some might see 230.

ill give you a run down of my power since i have been dynoed multiple times.

never dynoed stock.

first time at dyno i had x pipe, catback, cai, plenum, t/b. NO Tune. this made 241rwhp/277rwtq

at this time i had the shop install the ported heads and cams. they got it back on the dyno tuned it and i made 275rwhp/299rwtq

i got a set of long tubes and headed back to the dyno. i made 290rwhp/308rwtq.

now obviously cars vary a bit. there some guys on this site that have comprable mods and make a little more or a little less.
