I'm posting this thread to find out more info on the reliability of this car. I plan on getting one once I get back stateside, and I need to find out all the downfalls of this car. I really like it but I'm caught in the middle of getting a Cobra (01), Mach 1, or the 2005 stang. I know the numbers on the Machs are pretty limited, more so than the Cobra I believe. I love the fact that the Mach has a live axle vs the Cobra's IRS. So I'm just trying to compare as much as possible from the actual owners of these cars, to get a general consensus on any issues. I know the 2005 won't be coming out for another couple of months at least, but it will have new Model bugs like any other newly introduced car. Any replies/suggestions/comments are greatly appreciated.

As far as I'm concerned there aren't too many disadvantages. If you want an SC or Turbo get the GT or Cobra because the compression on the Mach is 10.1:1 and you'd only be able to boost it 6 lbs. or so without reducing compression ratio. The Cobra is a built motor so it will handle the boost.

Tha Mach looks better, rides better, has better seats. The only problem is thier aren't that many left and the ones that are are autos. It has the same tranny as the GT (Tremec 3650) and it's had some issues since 2001 but the 04 have been upgraded and they've reduce the fluid they put in them. All in all I've haven't had any problems. This is a car that will have a little over 16k made in the fox body and won't be made for quite sometime IMO since it's part of the living legends series (Bullit, Mach, Ford GT). I LOVE this car and have driven the Cobra. The Mach a better street car the Cobra has that power after the 1/8 mile but look very plain. IMO they put the motor/tranny in it from 01 and it's the worst looking Cobra since 93.

You are just little biased cuz you got two...LOL, thanks for the input. I don't like the fact you can't get the Mach in a vert, but I think the positives outweigh the negative. Does the Auto feel that much slower than the 5spd? I read somewhere that the 5spd redlines at like 6800rpms, and the auto redlines at like 5800rpms, is this true?

Yes you got it. I'd get the 5 speed I like it better unless your in a lot of traffic. I haven't pounded on the auto much, it's fast but it only has 1500 miles on her and these cars wake up after abouth 3-4k miles on them. The 04 auto is my GF car, I brought it for her because she liked the auto better than my last 2 5 speeds she had handed down to her (87GT/02GT). One thing about the auto you never miss a gear and look silly

I have a Black 2003 5-spd with about 20,000 miles and no major problems yet. It's a great Mustang, mod friendly, and I am glad I bought it

I love mine. Since mine is a 03 I had the tranny fixed. And its nice now.

Haven't been driving it much lately. Dang 17 inches of rain 3 weeks ago, and then another 12 inches last week has the roads full of gravel.
I had a van throw a rock up on my hood and it hit the windshield and now theres two chips on the hood.

I can get my ole beater out and never get stone chips!

I'm am unaware of any major defects or problems. One I do know of that affects some is the head tick problem, newer Cobras are affected as well, mine doesn't have the tick. Some have a tranny glitch too just like every other Mustang with the TR3650 tranny. I have a tri-ax on mine and have never missed a shift since I had the car and gives good feeling of command when rowing through the gears. Just like any other Mustang there are some squeaks and rattles with the chasis but not much. Stock tires offer piss poor traction. I have just about 8,000 miles on mine now, with no problems.

i read the auto is a t 5800 rpm because of a cast crank, 5 spd is at 6800 because of a forged crank.

Don't let that 5800 redline bother you. I regularly shift at 6800 and thats with 8psi of boost... Ford cast cranks are very good and the Mach engine is much tougher than most people think.
