what are the advanges of a gear drive?

im being offered a pete jackson gear drive and i want ot know what does it acutally do and what are the advantages of a gear drive....thanks

It controls cam timing.

They are supposed to be way more accurate than a chain driven set. They can be a PITA, and in my opinion, really not worth the hassle.

You can buy them for that reason, but that is not the reason why people get them. If you want that, just get a noisy timing gear.

Another downside, or upside, depending how you look at it, is that gear drives are pretty noisy as well.
