What are the colored vacuum lines for at the back of the engine compartment?

I have got a few broken colored plastic lines at the vacuum bundle and was wondering if any of these lines can be done away with. What are they for?

If you mean the round black inter-connector at the RH side, the lines are for the smog equipment and EGR. Check this color vacuum lines diagram courtesy of TMoss, it'll help you id the lines. If you have a green vacuum line, that's the one that goes to the EGR valve. Hope this helps.

Is this diagram a list of all the vacuum lines on the car? I need to look at my lines in order to check for leaks.....trying to stop surging idle.

Yup...provided your '88 is speed density (SD)...if not, the line going to the MAP sensor wouldn't be used. Also check this vacuum lines routing diagram, it will help you on the search. GL
