What are these codes?

172 is the o2 sensor indicates a lean condition on bank #1 (right side of the egine I believe)

116 is the engine coolant temperatur (ECT) sensor's signal is higher or lower then expected.

What you should do about them....i don't have a clue lol but maybe that explains em a little better for you.

I pulled the codes for my car, and got 172 EGO not switching, lean exhaust bank #1, and 116 ECT or EOT sensor out of range. What do these two codes mean? The car is completely stock, right now.

The 172 is O2 sensor indicates running lean.

the 116 is ECT is out of self test range. Back probe the wires, and see how many volts you see with the engine running. Keep your neg lead on your DVM at at a ground source, like the battery. The pos lead should be used on the wires at the ECT. One wire should be a 5v reference voltage. That is, it's applying 5V to that sensor, and seeing how much passes through the sensor to the other wire. If the other wire is at 0 or 5 volts, the sensor is likely bad. Any where inbetween is within test parameters. My guess is the sensor is shorted out, and you will see 5V. Or there is an open in the sensor, and you will see 0V.

See what you get and we will go from there. If you read less than 5 and more than zero, note the voltage when the car is cold. Start the car and let it get to operating temperature, and note the voltage again.

My EEC-IV book reads that the ECT should read appx. 3.0V at 20*C, and appx. 0.6V at 90*C. See how your ECT compares.
