What are your thoughts on Alum Driveshaft

Last week I saw a post from someone that was talking about his new alum d/s and was saying he got extreme results from it. Just curious if others have had the same extreme results? I had one on a 95 and saw nothing but now I am curious about if maybe it would be different on an 02. Thanks

When you do grears the drive shaft is spinning faster all the time. Since AL driveshafts are lighter and usually balanced better since they are new, it is very recommended to do when you do gears.

No extreme results. I bought one for the weight & strength.

Ever been to a car show and saw a great car, but the undercarriage sucked? An aluminum one sure beats a rusty cane anyday.

I want to get one... there supposed to be really good! Very quiet, well balanced, and obviously lighter. I'd say get one if you have the chance

Well, since its aluminum, i guess you could polish the hell out of it. but then why?

I do have one sitting on my garage that i have to get my ass in gear and install

Honestly I've never even thought about looking under a car at a carshow, unless it's just to look at the tips on the back or something.. wow I can't believe I never thought of looking under there. amnit:

I can't tell if that is sarcasm...

I check out a lot of cars' undersides at car shows; it can show you just how caring and thorough the owner is with the vehicle. Really comes into play when you see classics and antiques.
But the alum. shaft is definitely more function over form. I just mentioned it looks better, imo.

some guy on here posted that his clunky drivetrain did much better after he installed a carbon fiber shaft....did anyone get good results as far as "tightening" up the clunky drivetrain with Alum. Shaft?

I wonder about this too. I have a wicked vibration/buzz I'm chasing and I have the OE gears still. I'll be swapping them out in the Spring to fix the noise issue they have since the traction-loc got rebuilt (if it's coming about again it's getting gears) and I wonder if the aluminum driveshaft would help tone that buzziness some.

The money is no object trick would be a $650 carbon fibre driveshaft.

It helps. Not a night and day thing but it helps. Me and my buddies chased a vibration problem in one buddies lx for almost a year. Finally I bought him an AL driveshaft for his Bday it fixed it. We had put 3 ds in there over the course of the year.

i got an FRPP AL DS. and it helps, not a whole bunch. and for the price i'd say its "if-y" for the price. but if you have the $$$ then shoot go for it.

i put in the DS before the gears and have never had a problem with a vibration, and i think it freed up a horse or two and maybe a little bit of TQ.

We fitted the FRPP DS when we did the FRPP 4.10 install, I think it smooth'd out the ride.

Quick question, arent aluminum driveshafts considerably weaker then steel..? I know steel would be more unbalanced, but dont you run the risk of twisting the aluminum shaft..? After all, when all is said and done aluminum is still a soda can..and cannot be heat treated like steel.

aluminum is actually quite strong and I think the aluminum DS is thicker than the steel unit too. Think about it this way, most cars today have aluminum blocks and some have aluminum frames, I think it can handle some drivesahft duty.

The vibration issues are probably bad u-joints. Good reason for an upgrade.

I really didn't feel a difference in mine other than it stopped the nasty vibration from the worn our u-joint bearings.

Never noticed a huge difference with mine and gears but i have read because of its thickness it is stronger than the stock even though it is al., but you do that with gears, and al. flywheel you got a wicked drivetrain. light and solid.
