What automatic tranny came in the '79

Just curious I looked at a extremely clean '79 5.0 this afternoon atleast I think it was a '79 it had '79 on the tail light and on the door jam label. It was for sale pretty cheap. I didn't think to look at the shifter to see if it was an O/D tranny or not. I wasn't sure when the AOD was introduced.

Anyone??? I did a few searches on 79' mustangs and can't seem to find too much info on them.

AOD was intoduced mid-late 80's. Chances are it is an C4 at the very worse, it is an FMX. There is a pan reference that will tell you the tranny by the shape of the pan and number of bolts. It is easy to do with a glance.
