What brand Mustang II?

I'm still early in my 65 coupe project however I think I've decided to go with the mustang II IFS. For budget reasons I think I'll just start with the cross member and go from there. My question is what brand would you suggest? Heidt's, Rod and Custom motorsports or Martz Chassis?

interesting, thank you. What version did you go with? rc-107 seems to be the latest, but it only looks like they sell it as part of a kit. thoughts?

Also with their kits it doesn't look like you reinforce the frame to the firewall, true?

R & C

I went with R&C too. Customer service was definitely top notch. I chose R&C over Heidt's for two main reasons. I don't like the way you have to notch the frame in the heidt's kit and I like the R&C motor mounts better. I went with RC-107 with a power rack and the drop spindles. It's a very complete kit. I don't have the car on the road yet so I can't comment on ride/handling.

I'll chime in for Heidt's. I've done several installs and if you go to my website and look in the project galleries you can see photos. Also, if you do a forum search you'll find tons of info and photos.

I chose Heidt's mainly due to the super-beefy reinforcement to the frame rails. They give you boxing plates that extend well back into the deep, strong portion of the frame rail. This is much more reinforcement than you get with any other kit. Once you box the rails and then weld the crossmember in you have a very stiff, rigid front structure.

If you do decide to go with another brand, I'd suggest at least adding some additional reinforcement to the frame rails. Just my $.02.

Went w/ R&C as well. Call Heidts and get some "parts boy" on the phone who cannot answer any questions. OTOH, Willie is quite helpful.

Martz also has a great setup, but it is an entire front end, not just the X-member. Not sure why you would just want that, anyway! You need the rest of the parts.

As far as strengthening the frame rails, my 'vert has a LOT of additional steel in it. The blown 408 is going to need that!

I had some rust on my rails anyway and gussetted them. I'm also adding tubular support from frame rail to firewall. 800+ HP from a blown 460 has me especially paranoid about rigidity.

I'm going with the Heidts kit, mainly because the RC comes with alot of stuff I wont use, like engine mounts and the sway bar and mounts, so it'll be cheaper.

You can order any part you want seperately from R&C. I only bought the crosmember the upper and lower A-arms and the coilovers. The rest I either made or bought elsewhere.

Yeah, but it ends up costing more... I can get the Heidts for under 2k, free shipping, dropped spindles and the bigger brakes, tubular a-arms etc..

r&c all the way.willie and his son were very helpful.i actually purchased the crossmember,spring pockets and rack first and then the rest later for the same price as the kit.ride and handling are amazing.have lots of pics for anyone doing one...www.cardomain.com/ride/2073886.......................................................roger
