I currently have a holley 600 1850 ( I think). I was thinking of upgrading to a newer holley 650 double pumper good/bad? I have the following:

79 302 bored .060
comp cam 232 duration 280 advertised (with kit that has springs retainers etc.)
performer rpm intake (that has been gapped)
pretty much stock heads from what I can tell
comp magnum roller tipped rocker arms
t-5 tranny

any suggestions on if the 650 would be to much, not enough. This car will be a summer driver but not driven to far maybe 5 miles a day or so and a little more on the weekends. Fuel economy doesn't mean much to me...I didn't buy the stang to sip gas I bought it to guzzle it :D

It will work fine.
It will require plenty of fine tuning.
Even if it is 'super tuned', it will still use alot more fuel in regular driving.
You are safe with your combo up to about a 750 DP depending on your rear gear IMO.
I ran a similar setup and had best luck with the 750 DP.
The biggest difference is my heads were stock, but warmed over pretty good.
Good luck
Dave

650 or more on a 302 is really large, according to Holley. Off-idle bog and reduced fuel economy are the consequences of running a large carb. But hey, when you're revving to 8500 the 650 will keep up just fine.

Of course if you aren't stroking the motor or revving sky high, the extra carb size will just make it tougher to get the motor to run well.

The 650 DP will do fine. Tuning? Never had problems getting one tuned. When you say stock heads, which stock heads are you talking about? The 79 heads will have the largest chambers( 70 cc's) of all the small block heads, swapping to something like a set of early 289 heads( 54 cc's) will give your compression a big boost and allow your cam to perform much better.
