i need advise on a carb. i know i want a 750 with mech secondaries but what will be the best bang for the buck. this will be going on a 351w street strip coupe. the edelbrock 750 is $245 does anyone have any expirence with this carb? or should i spend the money on a holley or demon?

for a easy carb edelbrock is the one to go with. i have a 750 holley on mine and they are a carb that needs more time tuning. demons are better then holleys. i like them and one day hope to put one on my 351w.

I thought sll the Edelbrocks were vacuum secondaries. Ive used a Holley 750 before... wasnt bad tuning. I have a BG Speed Demon in my old truck. That thing took some time to set up but is awesome. It came with a novel sized manual and a DVD. Set idle butterfly position at idle, throttle position, mixture, idle speed, accelerator pump shot, etc. I heard a rumor Summit stopped selling them cuz people couldnt tune 'em and were sending them back. Jegs still carries them. If your patient its an awesome carb!! :nice:

The Deamons are some really nice carbs and will give you the most power, tuning gets much easier as you work with them. Edelbrocks, as stated above, is the easier carb.

definatly go with a demon. Definatly worth their money, best money you'll spend, ain't nothing more aggrivating than a bad performing carb. Holleys are nice to, but like 86bluecobra said, they take a lil more work to get them dialed inand most holley's come over-jetted. Edelbrokes...Ummm, dont have any personal experience with them, but i've heard they're P.O.S's. Dont take my word for that though.

i have heard that the edelbrocks are poor performers as well, but then i have heard that they are great. i like the idea of easy tuning but would hate to give up performance. i want to order something this weekend maybe its worth the extra hassle and money for the demon. htanks for the input fellas. keep it coming and maybe someday i will have a car put together and post a pic.

no it will be fine for the 351. if you have a chance to use a wide band A/F ratio o2 sensor type device you can dial in the carb for your aplication. or there is always dyno tuning which is the best way to tune any given steup.

Edelbrock carbs are good if you want an carb that will run decent out of the box in alot of applications. The Holley or Holley clone variants are WAY more tunable but it seems that you constantly have to fiddle with them to keep em running good. They never seem to be close out of the box but once you get one dialed in....its a beautiful thing. If your budget allows, I would go with something like a deamon. There are just more things you can easily change to get it spot on.

a vacuum secondary might be more friendly on the street.......but that depends on how much street you'll be driving it..

edelbrocks are great street carbs, they tend to be less finicky, but they don't seem to be as balls out in performance as the holleys.......although i'm sure any of them will work if your a carb genius.....

you know all these carbs they have anymore.......are the holley 'avenger" carbs any good?? their a little cheaper than the demon carbs.....but seem a step up from the old 4160's. the big thing with getting a newer carb i guess is to get one that has the removeable air bleeds for easier dyno tuning......

i've got a old holley on my 65 but it's seen better days and i dunno if i wanna spend almost 4 bills on a new carb

well i went with the 750 speed demon with the kickdown and mec. secondaries. the tech said that the mech. secondaries will work fine on either tranny. now i gotta do a little intake work on my torker any advise on porting and polishing this thing?

I would just smooth them out gently, dont make the ports any bigger. Gasket match it and use a carb spacer if you have the hood clearance. Other than that, those flow pretty good out of the box for a street car. As far as polishing it, just take some red scotch pads and go over all the ports with them after you get done with the port work. Thats all you need.

Stay away from edelbrock carbs...I have a 600 edelbrock it is horrible even after I changed the metering rods three times it still bogs it is not the ticket for a performance car those carbs are great for a daily driver or a truck in my opinion crap for performance stick with a holley..you will thank me you can pick one up one ebay or in here pretty cheap that needs to be rebuilt rebuilding a carb is pretty straight forward...

yeah i went with the demon carb, i really wasnt comfortable buying the edelbrock just from some of the hype i have heard. the demon was twicw as much but know i know i have a good carb. i think i will pull my intake off tonite a get started on that. i have a 1 inch spacer but it will be replaced with an N2O spacer. well i guess that kills this thread. thanks guys keep an eye out for the next one.
