well my first gear has been doing it for about 3 months now. doesnt really phase me cause i have a 4.10 out back and usually started off in 2nd gear anyways. only problem is, when i take is somewhere i gotta tell people not use first gear and they look at me funny. not many people know how to start from second gear even tho second gear is about the same as a stock 2.73 in first gear. the thing that sucks is that it pops out pretty hard (i rarely do it...maybe once every 2 weeks to test it). 3/4 the time it pops out and one time i thought i actually busted my hand up cause it hit back so freakin hard. it was rebuilt about a year ago and was workingn perfectly find til outta nowhere. i rarely ever race her at all except for the occassional off the line thiing but i cant even do that anymore

summary, what causes it to pop outta gear? do you think it calls for a rebuild or just for someone to look at cause transmissions (and rearends) are about the only thing i dont do on mustangs.

mine was doing that poping out of 5th. It sat for about a year while i was working on it and when i started driving it again it was fine hasn't done it sense. But yeah either check the stops on your shifter make sure its going in all the way or poss a bad synchro

i recently tore down one of my T5's that was popping out of first gear also. when i tore it open it looked like it had a recent rebuild. upon closer inspection first gear on the main shaft had worn down blocker ring teeth. bad syncros lead to bad gears, make sure whoever rebuilds it inspects all that crap very closely.

Stick a shifter handle into a pound of warm butter sitting on the floor, now sit to the left of it. Next proceed to shift 1-5 gears.........you now know what a new, freshly rebuilt t-5 feels like, with the added bonus of the shifter not poping out of gear at inopportune moments.
