What Clutch are you 650+rw guys Using?

Spec3+
Mcleod Twin Disc
ProMotion custum setup
MMR clutch
Centerforce DFX

I just toasted mine and its time for something better. I had what was called a Spec Stg 3h when I bought it, but is now called the Stg2+ I found out, good for 620 ft lbs.

I am leaning to the Stg3+ as its good for 800ft lbs and is about 500$
Mcleod is 1000$..uh no thx but good for 1200 ft lbs
Promotion and MMR I'm unfamilar with but plan to call Monday and see what they have for me. I have been told by alotta big powered KB 03-04 Cobra guys to try a Centerforce DFX (not dual friction...DFX) they claim its good for 900 ft lbs but I havent heard much about these.

I have always had great luck with Spec and have ran their clutches since 99' so I'll try and stay open minded, and the fact that the current clutch held this long impresses me since I was WAY over powering it.

You should have asked this a couple of months ago. I sold my McLeod Street Twin on Ebay for about $350. That was w/ al flywheel. It's still hard to sit down.

No, but less than 3000 street miles and no race time on it. I would have been happy with $500-$600 but at $350, I felt... violated.

I don't have 650 hp yet. I am only at a little over 500 rwhp, but I do have the Spec Stage 3+ clutch. I swapped out my auto for the 6 speed, and put the Spec clutch in about a year ago. I drive the car every day in the summer, and am really happy with the clutch. It works great at the track, and is tame enough to drive around town.

I also run the spec stage 3 clutch. As you know I'm not pushing 650hp but sometimes I have wet dreams about 650hp! lol

But seriously, I love it, works great on the street, no problems yet.

IIRC walt at promotion said their clutch would handle this. I have one, but its still sitting on a shelf in the garage.

EDIT: what happened to going C4, i thought you were toying around with that idea

Chris, its no secret how I feel about Spec, so you know I'n not going to recommend them. My buddy Mike welded his spec stage3 to his flywheel with 600rwhp.

I know I'll sound like a broken record here, but I suggest calling Walt from Pro Motion. The clutch I run is the same that many of the real street racers run, and they are close to your intended rwhp numbers. I run Walt's "Kustom clutch" and I couldn't be happier with it. Its able to easily be slipped with no chatter and holds like crazy at the track.

Someday I may find out first had if it'll hold 600+rwhp.

I didnt once mention a Spec stg 3 once as one of my options...Stg3+ yes which is a completely diff clutch, non 6 puck, full faced clutch.
The 3 is rated at 680
The 3+ is rated at 800

Spec no longer makes the 3's in the 6 puck design that welded themselves to the flywheels, was the material they were using and guys slippin clutches and/or doin burnouts w/o a line lock...they have since re vamped the materials in the reg Stg 3 and it no longer is possible to fuse the clutch to the flywheel.

Why people talk about a Stg 3 when I wouldnt even waste my time on it? I clearly only stated the 3+ as a option as I'm aware of all the love/hate relations with the stabdard 3.

This is direct from Spec site...read this and some may re-think the 3 vs 3+

The Stage 3+ features a streetable high clamp pressure plate and full face carbon semi-metallic disc. Listed as an upgrade to the stage 3, it offers torque capacities more comparable to the stage 5 but with drivability equal to, and in some cases better than, the stage 3. The high capacity and excellent drivability characteristics of this clutch is a result of years of research and development for this SPEC exclusive disc compound.

Thats pretty darn impressive if you ask me...and STREET FRIENDLY!

I bought a clutch today..hmm wonder which one.
After intense searching and asking opins this was the best choice for my car not to mention I have always had GREAT sucess with Spec clutches..although I never ran the dreaded 6 puck older Stg 3

I got it from Roger the other night but forgot it, I searched and couldnt find it so I said oh well.
I got a great setup on the way, Specs customer service is unreal!

You'll have to let us know how the stage 3+ does at your hp level after you have tested it out. I hopefully will be making a jump of a couple hundered horses in a little over a year, and I don't plan on switching out my clutch.

Heh... real street racers. As opposed to fake street racers?

Anyway, I'm using the 3+ and have been assured through many sources that it is fully sufficient for my expected 720ish horses. As I have yet to get this stupid thing running I can't verify that claim yet.
