I am looking into getting gears and a torqe converter for my car. Maybe even a throttle body and some portwork on my stock intake. What is a good combo for this im open to those who have done this before.

Here you go, my opinion for all it's worth :D

4.10 gears
Edge Racing's Mild Street Edge convertor, (real nice convertor, I like mine on a near stock application) http://edgeracingconverters.com/MildStreetEdge.htm Andre will set you straight.
Forget the TB, get a 73-76mm maf from C&L or better yet a Pro M
IMO I wouldn't bother with port work on the stock intake. I have seen awesome gains with an edelbrock performer efi intake on stock heads and cam on one of my cars. They can be bought used for about 3-350 and is a much better intake IMO.

4.10 gears and that convertor will really wake things up.. If your feeling good I would add a good shift kit to go with it. Stay away from B&M's junk though, way to harsh IMO, I like my transgo AOD-HP much better and you can do a search under my name for opinions and info i've written on that kit

heres my opinion:

4.10 gears, a convertor with 2400 rpm stall. as far as porting your stock intake...you might as well buy an aftermarket one. you can find used performers on ebay for decent prices instead of spending all that cash on porting. i paid 400 to have my typhoon intake ported. you can get yourself a trick flow street heat brand new for that price, and as far as throttle bodies go, go with a 70mm as you can grow into it when you do heads and cam later on

First of all what are your goals and budget?

Gears, I would definatly go with 4.10's, that should be the first thing you do, also do some subframes. As far as the tq converter that depends on your goals and budget.

I would go with what others are saying, about a 2000-2500 stall speed lockup converter, if you plan on doing a lot of other mods down the road I would go towards a 3000rpm stall speed converter.

The upper intake flows well, but the lower only flows about 130cfm per runner, so porting the lower intake would really help. I would contact TMOSS, he ports them for about $100, with shipping about $130 and all and all his customers seem very happy with the results. An aftermarket intake will not do much better with stock heads since the stock heads only flow about 150-160cfm, and his intake flows much better than that. Bigger isn't always better, you might just loose more velosity with an aftermarket intake over the TMOSS. TMOSS recomends a 65mm TB with his intakes.

depends on what you get. I mean you can buy a whole used supercharger set up which could easily put you into high 12s alone. Or you could get bolt ons and exhaust which might only put you into high 13s. Or you might decide to get all new suspension which might only put you low 14s. Or for a lil more than $2000 you could get a nice H/C/I combo and maybe get into low 12s. Its just about how you spend your money.

The intake should match the H/C/I, gears and stall conveter you choose to use. For mild H/C/I (200cfm flow capability), 3:55 gears with 2,500 or less stall, a stock ported lower will work well and cost less.

If your going to a mid level H/C/I (up to 250cfm flow), 3:73+ gears with a 3,000 stall conveter, I'd use a Cobra/Explorer intake with a ported lower if the head flow exceeds 220cfm, or a Performer, also ported if the head flows about 250cfm.
