What cruising RPM yields you the best mileage

1500rpm at 45mph: 1500rpm = 90000rph (rotations per hour) which yields 2000 rotations per mile.
1600rpm at 55mph: 1600rpm = 96000rph (rotations per hour) which yields 1745.45 rotations per mile, resulting in a better gas milage.

These are just numbers I pulled out of my ass :D
 
I think I've been lugging by engine lately, giving it too little gas etc. This week, I drive it fairly hard and see where the mileage lands... had to go wot like 5 times today after that seafoam stuff :)
 
if you turn something slower there is less drag. aero = the square of velocity. oil windage even more. all gear to gear friction is less with lower speed to a point. a tune with 14.5:1 fuel,high part throttle/low load spark advance. and drive slow... or get a moped. 180 yamaha = 65 mpg@max 60 mph laying on gas tank.
 
i remember a while back someone made a REALLY nich Excel Chart on the different rpms and gas mileage for different gear ratios....maybe a search master can dig it up

maybe it was just rpms vs mph w/ diff gears...idr
 
My scan guage gives me MPG readout and the best is 35 mph in 5th gear which gives about 40 mpg cruizing in a straight line. I have adjusted my driving style and found that shifting from 1st to 3rd at about 1700 and 3rd to 5th at 1700 gave the best results. I went from 14 mpg in town to over 23. The best recorded mileage is at 35 in 5th. Anything above that starts to detract. I also found that 1000 rpm gives the best mileage. It is that simple. Lower RPM = better mileage even if the engine sounds like it lugs at 1000 rpm.

It was RPM vs. MPH with different gears. There's no way to calculate gas mileage (I would think)
