Suspension What damage am I looking at?

Should it just be the ball joint broke or came loose? I'm gonna get a new one tomorrow to replace.

Wow Holy chit!!! Lol if your gonna do something do it right the first time!! Anyways i'm gonna go out on a limb here and guess that your car doesnt normally sit that low. If thats the case the I would think that you might have a bit more damage than just a ball joint!

What hapened? were you driving while this happened?

Whatever you do when you go to jack it up make sure you put the jack under the control arm because without the ball joint theres really nothing to hold the spring in and it could come out of there with a bit o force.

Yes I figured the arm would be the best place to Jack up
And I replaced the ball joint a could hundred miles ago but it went bad again. This was just in the parking lot. The wheel was seized because of the angle I'm betting, making contact with the arm

What springs do you have in your car? Have you just cut coils out of stock ones?

If the ball joint keeps going perhaps look at your a-arm bushings. Maybe there worn out and they are moving around and they shouldn't be. You may have to get in there with a pry bar to see if they move.

Looks like the balljoint nut is not even attached. Ws it tightened with a cotter pin installed?

It came out just like that, I'm thinking it got backed out or stripped out, I'll be taking a much closer look today. I was just worried about getting a ride home yesterday

well you need a new control arm anyways so might as well upgrade a bit if you can. if not get a junkyard arm and put new bushings and ball joint in it.

Perfect example of why they put a cotter pin in the castle nut, and what happens if you don't replace the pin.

Id say you forgot the cotter pin, they are there for a reason and this is why lol

The bolt atop the ball joint is what gave way. It stripped and popped right off.sheering the cotter pin. The lip of the arm had cause the rotor dust shield behind both. Ask making contact with inside of rotor. No damage to the surface. I put a new bolt on the ball joint and its good now.

New bolt on the ball joint? It might just be me, but I would be afraid to drive that car until I replaced that a-arm with a brand new ball joint in it. If it were me, I would go ahead and order some tubulars, urethane bushings, and fresh ball joints.

forget the tubulars on a street car. order up a factory replacement arm. I definitely wouldnt trust that ball joint after that just happened.

sounds to me like you mean the ball joint was defective and fell apart because there is no bolt , there is a threaded portion of the ball joint and the ball part of the joint it self a nut and a cotter pin , so that looks like a defective joint to me

How much do you value your life? A couple hundred bucks? Replace the dang arm and the ball joint!! Do you want that thing shearing off on the freeway? Potential serious injury or death to yourself or others if you don't pull your head out of your a$$ when it comes to SAFETY FIRST.

Good luck and don't turn a blind eye to all the GOOD advice here on Stangnet.
