What did you pay for balancing your 351w based stroker's?

Just got my 408 stroker kit balanced. He needed to put two pieces of mallory metal in the crank to get it to balance to 28oz. How about everyone else? The final cost was $300. He wanted piston's, pins, spirolocks, rod bearings, rings, rods, crank, flexplate, balancer and flexplate bolts. Even the bolt that holds the balancer in.

I was hoping to buy scat stuff, and not really need a balance.

I don't have a stroker but I do have a 357w .030. Balanced was $250.

I have the scat 9000 crank and scat h beam rods.

Surprised it took Mallory to get to 28oz, but $200 is normal pricing w/ no Mallory. Mallory is expensive and ranges anywhere fropm $40-$70 slug.

The 9000 series cast cranks aren't as heavy as the 4340 series and the 4340 Scat H-beams are not the lightest rods around, I assume you have a Probe or SRP piston as well.

67GTcoupe- All kits will need to be balanced no matter who's rotating parts you use, my 4340 Scat 408 kit balanced out to 28oz with the normal job. Eagel make a new 408 kit that comes with one of the new INTERNAL balance cranks, basically it is really heavy and will balance to "0" for about the same price as a 28 or 50oz job cost. Usually a internal or "0" balance motor costs a lot of money since Mallory is needed (you can spend $800+)

Why don't you need to balance your stock crank?

What exactly do they mean by balancing.......because I have talked to vendors who say they will sell me a "balanced" assembly.....is there something more than meets the eye???

The stock rotating assembly, crank, rods, pistons, rings, bearings, harmonic damper, and fly wheel/flexplate, bearings, bolts, etc are already at a 50oz balance from the factory, If you changed to a different piston the entire assembly would need to be rebalanced.

Yes, you can buy a assembly pre-balanced, most will want you to send them your flywheel/fexplate, flexplate bolts, balancer and balancer bolts, or some guys just use a generic flywheel/flexplate and a balancer made to what ever weight you are going to get.

The pistons, and rods are all balanced to the same weight as close as they can get usually less then .1 gram, they get what is called a bob weight (this is everything that is flying or rotating on the crank)

If your assembly was out of balance it wuld create a lot of harmonics and vibrations and the motor would not run for ****. A good proper balance job is very important.

I went with probe srs pistons. I went with the scat 9000 because it'll handle more power than what the stock block is rated for and the h beams because I run nitrous. Rick91 Why do you think i needed the mallory metal? The scat 9000 crank or the heavy rods or both? Just curious. I was gonna to buy from you Rick91 but a guy at the local machine shop started the project then changed his mind on the combo. Got a really good deal on the crank and rods. If anyone is looking Rick91 has great prices.

I would assume that since the cast crank is a good bit lighter then the 4340 crank and lighter then the rods and pistons the Mallory was needed. Ask your builder he should be able to provide you all the details.

I want a 357 balanced assembly or a 393 assembly.....whichever you can get me the cheapest. I will not use Clevite bearings.....so King or Speed pro bearings.
