I've started my preliminary search for a replacement for my Cougar for this summer and kind of have my eye on an early 4V Cobra, but I'll be damned If I'm going to pay the kind of money a lot of these guys are asking?!?

Continued rant HERE.....

I haven't seen one for sale in a while now, the last one I saw was a 97 that sold for $14,000.00. I am kinding of looking to add a 4V to my collection as well, not to replace anything.

Personally though, I would not replace a 1996 car with another 1996 car. If I was in the same boat as you, I would be looking at 99+ Cobra's or 03 - 04 Mach 1.

I'd love to, but there's not quite enough $$$ to spread around right now. My next choice for a 4V other than the early Cobra would be an '03-'04 Mach 1, then probably an '01 Cobra (not really a fan of the '99's) but not many Machs around under $20,000 right now and even the '01 Cobra's are fetching nearly that. And thats about $7,000-$8,000 more than I'm looking to spend.

Ah well.....might just have to skip it altogether this year.

There is a couple of 01 Cobra's for sale in Alberta. They are in the low 20's.

I didn't realize you sold your Cougar.

How much are you willing to spend on a car? I know of a couple of 07 GT's in Winnipeg that have 10,000 - 14,000 kms on them that are selling for under $22,000.00 CDN.( One is a repo, the other is a factory demo ) If you want one of those, I need an answer fast because they don't last at those prices...

Not sold as of yet. It's going to a buddy of mine and he's giving me half the money in the next couple of weeks and the other half shortly after that when he and his brother put their house on the market. So I'm not in any shape to buy one right now, but I thought it would be a good time to start looking.

Low 20's is too much for an '01 Cobra IMO, especially when 2 and 3-year newer Mach 1's are going for the same price.

I'll keep you guys apprised of the situation, but I just thought I'd do some preliminary looking in the mean time.

They aren't cheap out here either. My buddy's dad has a white 98 Cobra for sale last year and he wanted $19,000. No takers, imagine that. Right now even 03-04 Cobra's are coming down. I found 1 in Edmonton for $24,000. That's the best I've seen. Who knows how badly it was destroyed though.

I don't think higher-than-normal prices you see on used Mustangs (when compared to a lot of other cars) is something that is just restricted to Cobras but it seems all late model Mustangs are like that. If you think low 20s is too much for a '01 Cobra Gearbanger, a lot of '99-'04 GTs are going for 20 or just slightly under here in Saskatchewan.

Fox-bodies are just as crazy if not worse. There's still a lot in the 5-digit range: I'll see a four-eyed 5-liter convertible in okay condition with a price of $15,000.
