Hey guys maybe you can help me out. I have no clue where to go next here. I need to build a shortblock for my very tired 86 5.0 but not sure what I need to work with what I have. These are the parts I have so far....

1) frpp cobra valve covers
2) comp cam xe266hr (used 2500 miles) (216-224 DUR 544-555 LIFT 112 LOBE)
3) FMS GT40 upper/lower
4) edelbrock performer heads (used 8,000km) (don't have them in my hands yet)
5) hiland sharp 1.6 roller rockers
6) frpp 76 mass air
7) frpp 30lb injectors
8) fms oil pump and fms shaft
9) a9s computer and granatelli wiring kit
10) fms 65mm tb and spacer
11) fms ultra coil
12) frpp freeze plug/dowel set

If I throw in a 306 block or 347 depending on what I can afford what size of pushrods and lifters do I need with this combo?
As well when I get the heads what I need to do to them to get them ready to bolt-on?
Can I use a stock oil pan (neg/pos)?

All I had on the car before was the gt40 and the TB stuff. The interior and everything that isn't needed has been deleted (console, rear seats , sway bar etc) I know I won't get 800 horsepower out of this but would 300 seem fair?

Any help with what you would do would be of a big help...

30 pound injectors will have you running rich i would think. 24 would be your best bet if your not running a blower. the average numbers people are getting with a STOCK 302 and 2000 dollar trick flow top end kit is 300 rwhp.

Yeah that's what I thought. I was lined up to buy some 24's but I got a great deal on the 30's with the matching mass air. I thought I could throw on a regulator to work with that or that I might need them for the 347?

Yea i think you'd better go with the 347 if you want to use the 30lb injectors. they will be way too big if you use them on a 306. If you run that combo above i would say you would make in the neighborhood of 280-290rwhp. Not bad at all for a nice street car...

Stock oil pan will work but a bigger one would be nice.
As far as pushrod size if your not going to have the block decked or the heads shaved.Edelbrock can probably tell you what pushrods you will need you can use any type of replacment lifter or your old ones.If they can't tell you what size pushrod you will have to get a pushrod length checker and measure them your self.
Are the heads used? If so just clean them up real good, make sure there isn't any old gasket left on them.

With a 347 and the edelbrock heads you should see around 400hp at the crank.
With a 306 maybe around 325hp or so maybe a little more.

Do you plan on running any spray?

Wow. those numbers are huge....I'd be happy with 300 for sure. The heads are used about 8,000 on them. I just didn't know if I had to replace valvetrain components. I figured if I check to make sure if everything is tightened and adjusted to speck and cleaned that I would be good to go.

I wasn't planning on running spray but would you recommend anything to help set it up for NOS? And 88mouse do you think I'll have trouble with the 30lbs?
