hey guys, it's been a while since i've posted on the boards...but I'm posting now cause i need your help.

I'm looking to get into a GT convertible with an automatic. the particular one i'm considering is red with black top, charcoal grey leather, unmodiied with 46K miles. i need the auto cause i live in LA and the traffic sux. (although i'll be getting a 5-speed in 2007 most likely).

i have a 65 stang that i work on. it's been my daily driver for a while, but now that i'm driving 15 miles to work, the wear and tear and gas is kicking my butt. i dont know too much about the newer stangs, especially the mod engines.

any tips on what to look for?

keep in mind that vert + auto= teh slow. I understand about the traffic and all, but you need to really realise that it isn't going to be a performer, whilst still a "virgin" anyway. Now that that's out of the way, Get a carfax on the car that your considering buying. If you post on here or the corral that you need a carfax report, then someone that gets them for free will more than likely help you out. Other than that, just make sure that your not paying out the preverbial wazoo for something that has a $hit load of miles on it. Be very pickey, it's going to be your car and you shouldn't feel bad for being an a$$ and going over every square inch of the car. They shouldn't have to run a credit check before you haggle for a price. ****If they are not willing to work with you, turn around and walk out. Someone will want to sell you a car and will be willing to work with YOU!**** #### Do your homework first. Make sure you are knowledgable about what you are going to buy and how much you want to pay for it. Make an offer lower than what you would expect to pay and work up from there, if they aren't willing to work with you, someone else will.####

Don't take any $hit from any dealer.

Anyone else have anything.

ha, thanks dude. the one i'm looking at is a private party. he's asking 12,600. i think that's a fair price. it's under blue book. i think i might go rent a vert too see how slow it is. i'm not gonna race the car...i just want it as a cummuter. i have my 65 stang so i can be speed racer on the weekends.

i just dont want to be shifting in traffic....and i've heard all those stories about the current manual transmission. the throw out bearing clunck or whatever. but thanks for the input, dude.
i think i'll get the rental before i go out and get an auto vert.

I have a 2000 GT vert that I raced as soon as I got it with zero mods. My best at that time was 15.135 to a 15.35 or so. I'll have to check my slips. After mods I am in the low 14's and plan on being in the 13's this summer. All I can say is that nothing beats a vert on a nice day.
