What do they call the bolt pattern...

pattern on a 65 mustang 5 lug. I`ve heard terms like 5 by 4.5 and stuff like that, is there a common term used to describe our bolt patterns?

Yes. The first number desribes the number of lugs. The second number is the distance from one lug to the next (but not next to one another, it is the distance from one lug to another of the two across from the one, thus 4.5 is 4 and one half inches from one lug across to the next (either of two lugs across)).

Actually..5 x 4.5 is..(first number) 5 lugs on a (second number) 4 1/2" bolt circle...if you go from one lug to one across, you cannot get 4 1/2 inches.

Measure from ceenter-to-center useing the hole to the left as #1, the next #2 and the next #3....measure from #1 to #3...CENTER-to-CENTER

You measure center to center on opposite lugs for 4, 6 and 8 lug wheels.

For five lugs you can measure center to far edge of a second lug.

Here is a site that gives the info you need to measure the bolt circle diameter:

5X4.5---we didn't do ANYTHING in metric in 64.

I think he was joking... you WERE joking right... 114.3mm = 4.5" :rlaugh:
