What do you guys use for swirls and scratches?

I know that many people detail their cars, but i was wondering if there are products out there that remove scratches and swirl marks without having to buff things. I just want some of them to go away... nothing too major. Because im going to have it detailed in the next couple of months. But i was just wondering if there are any good products out there?

i bought an ultr-coat polish that i picked up from a detail shop. It's defferent stuff, you have to wipe w/ the contour of the car, like how air would glide. Does wonders, nothing like wax

The only way to remove swirls and scratches is with a buffer/orbital polisher and swirl removing compound. Period.

Things labeled such as "Swirl hider" or "Fills in swirls" are full of crap.

Get yourself a Porter Cable 7336, some edge double sided pads, and GOOD swirl removing compound (Poor Boys, Pinnacle, etc) and you'll be on your way.

If the scratches are in a small area and you can't catch your finger on them you can use Meguiars "Scratch X" by hand. Be warned that it takes multiple applications and lots of "Passion" to remove any flaws in the paint.

Read up online... there is a bunch of info on Autogeek.com, Autopia.org, and Meguiars.com.

San Man is right that to do it properly over the whole car you need a PC, good pads, good product and time.

Porter Cable + Optimum Polish + Optimum Poly-Seal + Natty's Blue = Shiniest, most swirl-less and most mirror finish black ever imaginable. if it can do that to black, imagine any other color.......

off the shelf brands pail in comparison to some of the stuff you can get online for the same price. the problem with hand applying a polish is you cannot break down the polish as you can with a orbital or random action tool like the PorterCable listed above. Its an expensive package to start out with, youre looking at 2-300$ invested for the PC, Pads, Polishes/compounds, waxes, microfibers, etc. but you do it once or twice a year and thats it, standard weekly upkeep using a good washing method is all that is needed.

btw autopia and autogeek are great sites to get you started. time to read up on how real detailers get that shine you always dreamed of.

I dont worry about swirls and scratchs anymore, After having a Black Bronco,
and 2 black Maximas I have had a white 99 GT and a yellow 04 GT
Both colors are very forgiving when it comes to showing scratchs, actually
I cant see any at all. I wont be buying any more black or dark colored cars.

I love Poorboy's products. SSR2.5, SSR2.0, SSR1.0 are all excellent swirl remover, with the higher the number being more abrasive.

Check out www.autopia.org. There are lots of threads on swirl removal and there are LOTS of experienced detailers on that forum.

Poorboy's is awsome, tho i'd warn against a newbie using a polisher on his car for the 1st time, iv seen disaterous results

I personally think Zaino is over rated crap. But yeah you need a buffer and some swirl removing compound. I use Meguires Hi-Tech line. Swirl remover, show car polish, then yellow wax. Love it.

ziano is rarely used on those detail sites. its great for hand applications, but when compared to a PC's work it doesnt even come close. most use zaino on top of a full days work with a PC.

A PC 7336 is just about foolproof. The only way you can really screw up is by dropping it on your car.

Zaino is overrated....I used to use it so I have experience in the matter. Klasse AIO or Jeff's (current polish I use) Werkstatt are far beyond Zaino. Zaino even went so far as to make their own "Zaino AIO" rofl.

Zaino = junior varsity lol

Optimum polish has always worked for me. Finish it off with Poorboy's Natty's blue and oh my...
