2004 Saleen S281SC mint condition 5,600 miles, mineral grey, convertible, speedster package, wheel upgrade (10" rear and chrome), Saleen 13" Brembos plus:

Ford Motorsports AL driveshaft
Ford Motorsports 373 gears
Full length subframe connectors
Bassani X pipe and cats
Maximum Motorsports subframe connectors
JLT Intake

Any ideas what it could bring ($)? I hate to say it but I think I am looking to make a change. I love the car and all but I want a bit more refinement (M3 or S4 or ?).

The market is really soft for these cars, I would say high $20's to $30k max. Not what you want to hear, but I think this is the general market.

You can check NADA for what they say it's worth.But in general these cars are not holding value very well.I thought about getting rid of mine for an 03-04 cobra a couple times but decided it wasn't worth the loss.

Vince-did you already install those subframe connectors and aluminum driveshaft? I would be interested if you are going to sell the car.

Paid $33K for my 02 Extreme, 100% stock, 4600 miles, 12-05.

NADA says it worth 10K or 11K more but fat chance of that if I wanted to part with it......

These Saleens suck in terms of keeping value. Granted, I didn't pay the $55k sticker price but still, to get $30k after a year and only 5K miles.....ouch! Should have know when I paid only $39,500 for mine new huh????

Don't feel bad. It's not just a Saleen mustang, it's any car that's only a year or so old. Just like you said good thing you didn't pay sticker. At least you did a few nice things to the car that wont hurt the value as far as an Saleen buyr will care. Why are you selling so soon?

Just not into the Saleen as I thought I would be. My wife talked me into getting a vert and that's not my thing. Not to be snooty, but I drove two Audi's, a Saab and now a BMW as daily drivers and it's easy to get used to the refinement, brakes, steering, overall feel. All of the cars above have better feel in every category than my Saleen. I'm simply leaning more towards an M3 or Z06 but well see.

I was M-3 shopping before I bought my Saleen and test drove a few cars. For me it all came down to bang for the buck, my wife wanted me to get another Audi or the M-3 but I just couldn't part with that much cash.......

Audi RS4 or a new M3 would be sweet. Might want to hang on the that Saleen until the new M-3's come out....... probably worth the wait.

Wait until you start seeing the maint bills from owning a BMW. Great cars, but they nickle and dime your ass to death. I love my Dinan Stage 2 540 six speed, but the small things that you have to replace add up and really start to annoy you after awhile! You will wish you owned your Saleen again after owning and maintaing a BMW for a few years.

I do own a BMW and it's almost perfect, 2002 530i with sport. Audi, now that's a different issue, was in the shop weekly (2000 S4). My 9-5 Aero is simply the finest car I have ever owned and never needs anything....only car I ever kept after 100K miles and it's good as new, fast as S%$t too.

The original buyer of any car takes a beating. Trust me, you wouldn't want to of been the guy i got the xp8 from. 26,000 miles on it, year and a half old. He added the supercharger, 10,000 in stereo and navigation.
He only lost about $40,000 on it.

AMEN to that. And I know all about how you feel. I owned an E34 M5 for a long time. It was top dog until the 2000 E55 came out. I think I spent $6,800 on the trans in that car. Damn.

It's not the big ticket repairs that happen. It is the small things like the final stage unit for $60, the $80 oil changes, the water pumps radiators and thermostats that fail like clock work at 60k miles because of the plastic impeller used on the water pump, the subpar suspension bushings, leaky valve cover gaskets, bad mass air meters, cheap interior door handles that break off in your hand, rear window regulators that fail, pixels in the instument panel lighting that fail, camshaft position sensors, bad power steering pumps, secondary air pumps that fail and make your car sound like an airplane at start up, and cheap catalytic converters that charge two arms and a leg to replace.

These are things that NEVER happen to Mustangs

I love my BMW, but it Breaks My Wallet!

IMO, high end luxury cars only have a rep for lasting long and being reliable, because the owners usually ditch them by 50,000 miles, they usually have no problem affording new technology. Then they land going to middle class familys, then when they realize it cost too much to maintain them at 100,000 miles, they then go to used car lots in the hood, projects, or bad neighborhoods, where wanna be gangstas buy them and put 22 inch rims on them (even if they don't fit).
