What does it take to have a higher revving motor?

When I built my race car motor to sustain RPM's over 5k and up to 8k we put in a steel crank, steel rods and a hell of a cam. We have racing rockers and rods.

I do know you'll need a good set of rocker arms/followers can't remember the name in these motors here to prevent valve float. I read in one of the articals they gained like 40hp alone from changing them out on a blown car and gained like 20hp on the N/A. I do recall them saying they were like $150-200 a piece. It's going to be expensive as hell but well worth if you can pull it off and make it work. I do think the BB302 would be a good starting point for a 2v otherwise go for the 4v.
 
So, a 5.4L Navigator motor would be a better platform to start off with?

A better start would be a less "one dimentional" train of thought. You don't need 8,000RPM to make an ultra hot road race car. If you continue to progress with this line of thought, you'll find that you'll end up spending a pile of money, for lack luster results. It's just not going to happen. Hell, even the FR500C with it's high revving, hard hitting N/A power band doesn't come anywhere near 8,000RPM....and it's a screamer!

The Ford Mod Motor platform just has too much stroke to build a high strung, rev-happy engine. And the 5.4L is even worse so. Haven't you noticed that all the high revving "exotic" type engines you're basing this idea off of are all of small displacement? If you want both high RPM potential and big displacement, you need shorter rods and more of them.....8 just ain't enough. Give up the high-RPM mind set and work these V8's within their ideal power ranges and you'll be a lot happier.
